Accounting SpecialistWage: Starting at $22.75 per hour, DOEDepartment: AccountingFLSA Status: Non-ExemptReports To: Accounting SupervisorLocation: WillcoxPurpose of PositionPerforms accounting functions related to general ledger activities, accounts payable, accounts receivable, inventory, settlements, fixed assets, work orders, capital projects, and financial reporting. Maintains accurate accounting records, researches discrepancies, supports regulatory compliance, and assists with audits, reporting, and other accounting activities essential to the effective operation of the company.Duties and Responsibilities (May include but are not limited to the following. Other duties may be assigned).Actively encourages teamwork, open communication, and cooperative interactions by promoting a positive work environment that reflects the company's mission, values, and management goals.Prepares assigned account reconciliations, researches discrepancies, and assists with appropriate corrections.Prepares routine and recurring journal entries with supporting documentation for review.Assists with month-end and year-end closing activities and the preparation of financial, management, and regulatory reports.Supports accounts payable, accounts receivable, inventory, settlements, vendor maintenance, and customer or vendor account research.Assists with maintaining fixed asset records, including additions, retirements, transfers, depreciation, and supporting documentation.Reviews work order documentation for completeness, accuracy, proper authorization, and compliance with company procedures.Assists with validating labor, material, equipment, and contractor charges recorded to work orders and capital projects.Assists with determining the appropriate capital or expense treatment of project costs in accordance with FCC Part 32 and company accounting policies; escalates classification questions for review.Tracks work orders and capital projects from initiation through final closeout and coordinates with appropriate departments to resolve missing documentation, coding discrepancies, or other outstanding items.Assists with reconciling inventory and material usage to work orders and capital projects and research discrepancies affecting project costs or closure.Maintains accurate accounting, work order, continuing property record (CPR), RUS contract, and FRS reporting records and supporting documentation.Maintains complete and accurate accounting records in accordance with company policies, internal controls, record retention requirements, and applicable regulatory requirements.Assists with external audits, regulatory reviews, data validation, special projects, and process improvement initiatives.Provides backup support and cross-training for other Accounting Department responsibilities as assigned.Handles company, customer, employee, and financial information in a confidential manner.Interfaces and collaborates with all departments, vendors, auditors, and business partners in a professional manner.Actively promotes teamwork, open communication, and cooperative working relationships that reflect the company's mission, values, and management goals.Develops and maintains a working knowledge of FCC Part 32 accounting, capital project accounting, work order processing, inventory accounting, and telecommunications industry accounting practices.QualificationsComputer Experience: Intermediate personal computer skills including electronic mail, word processing, spreadsheet, database activity, etc. Microsoft Word and Excel experience is desirable but not essential.Planning/Organization: Be able to prioritize tasks, handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization. Bi-lingual in Spanish and English is desirable and may be required depending on office location and staffing needs.Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, and volume.Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
