Ultrasonographer - Per Diem Varies

Description Under general supervision to perform technical procedures providing pertinent anatomical and functional Ultrasound data for the Radiologist’s interpretation. Core Competencies Perform diagnostic ultrasound procedures as outlined in the Department Policy and Procedure Manual. Perform portable procedures in high-stress environments including Neonatal Intensive Care Nursery, Labor Room, Intensive Care Units, Surgery Suite, and Emergency Room. Perform non-invasive vascular exams as outlined in the Ultrasound Department policy and procedure manual. Evaluate patient’s medical history and clinical data. Establish quality control processes to ensure patient information on images is accurate. Complete all paperwork accurately. Demonstrate knowledge of clinical norms for all age groups as applicable to job functions. Perform all clinical and diagnostic procedures for geriatric, adult, adolescent, and pediatric patients according to department policy and procedure. Provide patient and family with information/instructions regarding the procedure, evaluating barriers to understanding. Ensure patient safety and confidentiality while performing exams. Assist physicians utilizing ultrasound in the performance of special procedures involving aspirations, biopsies, and guidance of needle placement. Follow universal protocol by using two patient identifiers prior to performing the exam, using pre‑op/pre‑procedure verification check list, and using “Time Out.” Maintain proper sterile techniques for procedures; regularly practice aseptic techniques and strictly obey isolation and infection‑control procedures; prevent cross‑contamination during procedures. Follow cleaning and high‑level disinfection of semi‑critical devices, policy and procedures. Adhere to infection‑prevention guidelines: use good hand‑washing technique, adhere to isolation policy, clean equipment between patients, help keep patient rooms and units clean, follow aseptic technique when opening sterile supplies, set‑up and perform procedures, dispose of infectious waste properly. Maintain appropriate quantities of medical stock for the department. Utilize Hospital Information System (HIS), Radiology Information System (RIS) and PACS. Assist student technologists who may rotate through the department. Complete all assigned procedures in a timely manner and use time between procedures to assist others, perform clerical duties, stock, transport, etc. Maintain a safe working environment: keep work area clean and free of hazards, alert appropriate resources of faulty or broken equipment, observe all safety guidelines, recognize and report unsafe acts. Transport and move patients using appropriate body mechanics and safety precautions; demonstrate knowledge and practice of safe patient‑handling devices; meet safety needs of patients, use equipment safely and properly (O2, Hoyer lift, electric beds). Use ALARA and safety principles at all times. Understand role in maintaining medication security to authorized personnel only. Answer telephone inquiries of a technical nature from physicians, patients and hospital personnel. Assume responsibility and accountability for own professional growth and practice, including maintaining current licensure and completing educational requirements. Department Specific Competencies Education: Completion of a formal Ultrasound training program or Radiology technologist certification with three (3) years clinical ultrasound experience.
