The Assistant prepares food using standardized recipes and specified quantities and is expected to make simple adjustments as necessary with problems referred to the Manager or Assistant Manager.Essential Job FunctionsServe as a cashierRead and follow recipesWeigh, measure, and mix ingredientsCalculate time needed to complete work on timePortion food into servings and serve on the serving linePlace food in the proper place on the serving lineRefills pans as needed for servingReceive inventory and place in proper storage, including freezer, cooler, and stock roomNotify manager of equipment repairs neededRecord material and supply needsClean utensils, equipment, serving lines, floors, and food preparation tablesWash dishes, pans, and utensils with a commercial dish machineFollow HACCP plan regarding food safety and sanitationAdditional assignments as assigned by the supervisorKnowledge, Skills and AbilitiesSkill in simple math for recipe and time calculationsSkill in the use of kitchen utensils and equipmentAbility to measure and record temperaturesAbility to run a cash registerAbility to measure ingredients for recipesAbility to read and understand written instructions for recipes and use of equipmentAbility to establish and maintain positive working relationshipsAbility to communicate positively with school staff, students, parents, and visitorsAbility to work in a standing position with exposure to frequent noise, heat, cold, and repetitive motionsAbility to lift up to 50 poundsAbility to work in a fast-paced environmentSome knowledge of food preparation and serving practicesGeneral knowledge of USDA rules and regulationsMinimum Training and ExperienceHigh School diploma or equivalent.Minimum Qualifications or Standards Required to Perform Essential Job FunctionsRegular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force, frequent exertion of up to 25 pounds of force, and occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force. Frequently requires standing; walking; sitting; speaking or hearing; using hands to finger, handle or feel; climbing or balancing, stooping; kneeling, crouching or crawling; reaching with hands and arms; tasting or smelling; pushing or pulling; lifting; and repetitive motions. Work has standard vision requirements. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by using the spoken word. Hearing is required to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound. Requires visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts. Requires use of measuring devices. Occasionally requires working near moving mechanical parts. May be exposed to the risk of electrical shock and bloodborne pathogens. Occasionally may be exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather), to fumes or airborne particles, to toxic or caustic chemicals, to extreme hot or cold (non-weather). May be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment.
