Environmental Field Specialist - Oak Ridge, TN ID: 2353 - RSI - 02 Position Summary Environmental Field Specialist who supports environmental and structural characterization sample collection and office activities. The role involves collecting and documenting structural materials—including concrete, structural steel, wood, liquids, system piping, asbestos, paint, drums, filters, radiological materials, residues, soil, sediment, and other legacy materials—as well as performing inspections. Responsibilities include field procedure compliance, field equipment calibration, and meticulous field documentation (logbooks, forms, etc.). The position is 80% field and 20% office, requiring the ability to work in all field conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow). Primary Responsibilities Provide environmental characterization and support to field teams performing data collection for environmental regulatory agreements and requirements. Work 80% field/20% office, able to work in all field conditions while wearing appropriate protective gear. Perform pre‑field mobilization activities, deploy to field locations, and support end‑of‑day equipment and data management. Understand the purpose and processes of field data acquisition. Participate in a strong safety culture. Required Education and Experience Related degree (associate or bachelor’s) or job experience in environmental science, biology, geology, etc. Job Knowledge / Qualifications Effective written and verbal communication skills. Ability to operate company vehicles and be insured on corporate insurance (clean driving record). Team player; ability to work well with others on a daily basis. Ability to work in inclement weather on a daily basis (rain, snow, heat, cold). Extensive knowledge of scientific/environmental engineering concepts, experience, and demonstrated ability. Knowledge of EPA procedures (chain of custody, log books/documentation, sample handling). Travel may be required depending on project/customer. Experience in environmental and facility characterization is a plus. OSHA 40hr HAZWOPER and Rad Worker II training preferred. Clearance and Health Requirements Criminal background check. Pre‑placement drug screening. Ability to obtain DOE security clearance. Must possess a REAL‑ID compliant driver’s license or U.S. passport with a clear photo, issuance date, and expiration date.
