A professional nurse is an individual accountable for the care of a group of patients.
The Registered Nurse (RN) focuses on safe, effective patient and family-centered care, customer satisfaction, and quality outcomes.
The RN is responsible for assisting in maintaining a financially stable unit.
The RN promotes personal development with an emphasis on evidence-based practice and education supported by a governance framework.
The RN supervises licensed and non-licensed staff members.
The RN is responsible for assessing, developing, implementing, and evaluating the plan of care.
The RN focuses on patient and family comfort, education, and satisfaction.
The RN applies educational and professional experiences in the delivery of quality care and mentoring or precepting staff.
Job Responsibilities:
Assessment: Performs assessments and reassessments per policy and procedure or as warranted by patient condition.
The RN demonstrates the ability to make sound independent decisions.
Development and Implementation: Initiates, prioritizes, and implements the plan of care.
The RN reviews and revises the plan as indicated.
The RN collaborates with patients and families, as well as interdisciplinary services.
The RN utilizes resources appropriately to support the needs of the organization and patients.
Evaluation: The RN monitors and documents response to clinical interventions.
Education: The RN facilitates, coordinates, provides, and evaluates education specific to patient and family needs during their stay and at discharge.
Leadership: The RN delegates tasks to licensed and non-licensed personnel.
The RN functions as a mentor and preceptor, demonstrating and encouraging teamwork.
The RN identifies and communicates opportunities for improvement.
The RN participates in quality, safety, and service process improvement efforts.
The RN implements practice changes and complies with regulatory standards.
The RN participates in the governance model and is knowledgeable about activities that facilitate collaboration.
