Cortina Vineyard Management, LLC dba Bettinelli Vineyards is an ultra-premium vineyard management company based in Napa Valley, farming over 1,300 acres across client-owned and internally controlled properties. Our portfolio spans vineyard management services for some of the valley's top winery clients, our own portfolio of properties, and Accendo, a small high-end estate wine label. We combine four generations of Napa Valley farming heritage with a modern, systems-driven approach to finance and operations.

Position Summary

The Accounting Manager runs the company's accounting operations across a multi-entity environment that includes vineyard management operations, vineyard ownership and lease entities, and a small estate wine label. The role owns the monthly close, reviews and approves work prepared by accounting staff, oversees client billing and cost allocation, and delivers accurate, timely financial reporting to the CFO. The Accounting Manager is the primary reviewer in the department's preparer/reviewer control structure and is expected to strengthen processes and controls as the business grows in complexity.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Accounting operations oversight
• Manage daily accounting operations — AP, AR, billing, and general ledger — performed by accounting staff, setting priorities and resolving issues as they arise.
• Review vendor invoice coding, purchase documentation, and payment requests for accuracy and proper approval; approve and release payment runs.
• Oversee client billing: ensure labor, equipment, materials, and other vineyard costs are accurately allocated and invoiced, and review invoices before release.
• Monitor accounts receivable aging, direct follow-up on past-due balances, and lead collection efforts on escalated accounts.
• Maintain the integrity of financial records in QuickBooks and of operational and cost-accounting data in AgCode, including block- and cost-center-level coding standards.
Close, reconciliations, and reporting
• Own the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close calendar; assign close tasks, track completion, and hold the close cadence.
• Review and approve balance sheet reconciliations prepared by accounting staff, and ensure reconciling items are resolved timely.
• Prepare reconciliations for higher-risk and complex accounts, including intercompany, loans, and inventory valuation.
• Prepare and review journal entries, schedules, and internal financial statements for CFO review.
• Review vineyard, ranch, department, and client-level financial activity for accuracy and completeness.
Budgeting, analysis, and cash
• Assist the CFO with cash-flow monitoring, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
• Prepare management reports and variance analysis, with explanations of drivers behind actual-vs.-budget and prior-year differences.
• Support lender reporting, covenant compliance schedules, and underwriting requests as directed by the CFO.
Controls, compliance, and team leadership
• Maintain and enforce internal controls, including the preparer/reviewer structure, approval thresholds, and segregation of duties; escalate control gaps to the CFO.
• Support audits, reviews, tax filings, insurance reporting, and special projects; coordinate responses to auditor, tax preparer, and lender requests.
• Maintain organized accounting records and ensure compliance with company policies and applicable record-retention requirements.
• Coordinate with payroll, operations, vineyard managers, and administrative staff to ensure accounting information is complete and accurate.
• Provide guidance, training, and day-to-day oversight to accounting team members; review work product and develop staff capabilities.
• Identify and implement improvements to accounting processes, reporting accuracy, and operational efficiency.

Qualifications

Required
• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of five years of progressive accounting experience, including managing or overseeing accounting functions and reviewing others' work.
• Strong understanding of GAAP and month-end close procedures.
• Strong working knowledge of QuickBooks.
• Advanced proficiency in Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
• High accuracy and attention to detail, sound professional judgment, and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Ability to manage deadlines and multiple priorities with limited supervision.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred
• Experience with AgCode or comparable farm-management/cost-accounting software.
• Agricultural, vineyard management, farming, winery, or related industry experience.
• Experience with job costing, client billing, cost allocation, and multi-entity accounting.
• Bilingual English and Spanish.

Working Relationships and Conditions
• Reports to the CFO and supervises the accounting team, including the Staff Accountant.
• Works regularly with payroll, operations, vineyard managers, and administrative staff, and with external auditors, tax preparers, lenders, and vendors.
• Office-based role in Napa Valley with a standard schedule; workload peaks at month-end, year-end, and during harvest season.
