Our client is an award-winning, locally owned and operated mental health practice specializing in treating the most challenging depression and anxiety cases. The clinic's board-certified mental health specialists combine modern psychiatry with evidence-based treatments and therapy to tailor a personalized and effective treatment plan for every patient. Position Summary
The Clinical Director is a hands-on clinical leader responsible for ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality, evidence-based psychiatric care while advancing our clinical capabilities. This leadership role encompasses a dynamic balance of direct patient care (typically 50% of total time) and clinical leadership responsibilities (50%), including education, quality improvement, and program development. The specific allocation of responsibilities will be reviewed and adjusted quarterly in collaboration with senior leadership, based on organizational needs, service demands, and strategic priorities. The Clinical Director plays a key role in overseeing clinical quality, collaborating on clinical policy and procedure, supporting student placements, and managing provider training and competency development. In collaboration with the Director of Clinical Operations and Executive Leadership, this role drives operational excellence, supports program growth, and fosters a culture of learning and collaboration. The Clinical Director also represents the organization in professional and community partnerships to expand service offerings and strengthen relationships. Key Responsibilities Stewardship Clinical Leadership & Stewardship
- Lead the delivery of evidence-based psychiatric care through direct practice and clinical oversight.
- Collaborate with the rest of the leadership team on service alignment with organizational strategy.
- Collaborate in developing and implementing clinical policies, protocols, and practice standards.
- Write and update clinical policies in collaboration with the Associate Medical Director (AMD) and Clinic Nurse Manager to ensure compliance and standardization across clinics.
- Serve as the second interviewer for new provider candidates to assess clinical competency and cultural fit.
- Conduct regular documentation audits for clinical leads to ensure accurate and timely documentation, providing feedback and remediation as needed.
- Collaborate with AMD, and CNM to perform annual, provider clinical performance evaluations and participate in performance management meetings, aligning feedback with organizational goals.
- Collaborate with the clinical and admin team on the development of provider documentation templates and other clinical documentation tools.
- Represent the company in regulatory, professional, and community partnerships.
- Act as an ambassador at conferences, professional forums, and outreach events.
- Collaborate with leadership on governance, strategic planning, and quality improvement.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, and Axis best practice guidelines.
- Promote mental health awareness through supporting the team with community education and outreach
- Work with the team to sustain relationships with community partners and referral sources though attendance of events to create a community presence
- Support the delivery of patient-centered, culturally competent care that meets diverse patient needs.
Technical Excellence & Clinical Oversight
- Collaborate and oversee development and implementation of clinical protocols and standards.
- Provide expert consultation on complex clinical cases and treatment planning in collaboration with the AMD's and Clinical Leads.
- Maintain a 50% caseload.
- Ensure thorough lab monitoring, diagnostic assessments, and pharmacogenomic testing as appropriate.
- Collaborate with the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and AMD's to develop and maintain treatment protocols that reflect current evidence-based practices.
- Maintain and enforce clinical quality, safety and compliance standards and corporate policies in cooperation with the Chief Medical Officer and Associate Medical Directors to ensure high quality care across clinics and prescriber teams.
- Conduct regular chart reviews to ensure quality, compliance, and appropriate coding.
- Support optimal provider utilization and documentation metrics weekly and review sample charts monthly for clinical quality and documentation standards. Offer support and retraining for providers below expectations either directly or through the Clinical Leads.
- Be available for case escalations and staff consultations to support timely decision-making and alignment with organizational priorities, in conjunction with the the AMD's.
- In conjunction with AMD's, develop and support delivery of clinical training, onboarding, and competency programs for prescribers and
- Support new graduate and student preceptor programs.
- Foster a collaborative, supportive, and engaged team environment.
- Support recruitment, retention, and ongoing professional development
- Stay current with mental health trends, evidence-based practices, and regulatory standards to guide clinical education, ensure compliance, and support programs such as the new graduate NP initiative.
- Plan and support regular supervision sessions for new graduate providers and case consultation meetings with the AMD's, Clinical Leads, and Clinical Director (e.g., weekly new grad supervision and case consult sessions).
- Hold scheduled office hours to provide clinical support, mentorship, and case review to providers.
- Provide at least one structured educational or clinical presentation per year (such as a case study, journal review, or skills topic).
- Conduct monthly clinical performance meetings with leadership team to address performance gaps, and work with the Clinical Leads and AMD's to support education and training for performance gaps.
- Provide at least one hour per week of collaborative consultation with PMHNPs and PAs to review cases, treatment plans, and clinical best practices.
Clinical excellence
- 5 random chart audits per clinics
- Support 85% utilization of 30 minute follow ups
- Support development of a clinical outcomes performance dashboard
- Support clinical development of APP staff
- Support development and delivery of training for APP and tech staff
- Support 85% Schedule utilization average across all service lines
- Support consistent, standardized documentation practices
- Support 85% of notes closed within 24 hours
- Support 95% first time pass rates with payers by ensuring complete, error free documentation
- Support organizational goals for productivity
- Support patient experience/patient satisfaction goals
- Support building the team for future growth plans
- Board Certification in Psychiatry or Psychiatric Mental Health (PMHNP-BC, PA-C with psychiatric specialization.
- Active and unrestricted Colorado license as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) or Physician Assistant (PA)
- Current Colorado DEA registration with appropriate schedules for psychiatric medication management.
- Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) or Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) with a psychiatric focus preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of clinical experience in psychiatric mental health care as a prescribing provider.
- Advanced clinical expertise in psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and treatment.
- Comprehensive knowledge of evidence-based psychiatric treatments, including both medication management and therapeutic interventions.
- Proven interpersonal, leadership, and team-building skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively within interdisciplinary teams.
- Commitment to continuous professional development and staying current with clinical advancements.
- 2+ years of leadership, supervisory, or program development experience.
- Experience with interventional psychiatry, including TMS and Spravato treatments.
- Familiarity with pharmacogenomics, holistic treatment planning, and integrative care.
- Background in clinical research, publication, or quality improvement initiatives.
- Experience in program development, budget management, staff recruitment, and clinical education.
- Engagement in community outreach and mental health advocacy.
