Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Adult Medical Specialty Duration: 26 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 1 year License: Active Illinois license required Certifications: BLS required Must-Have: - Experience with Central Lines, Tracheostomies, Chest Tubes - Prefer candidates with EPIC experience and MedSurg travel experience - Experience in a Level I trauma center will be considered if EPIC experience is present Description: The unit consists of 56 private and semi-private beds. Nurse-patient ratios are 1:4-5 from 07:00 to 23:00 and 1:5-6 from 23:00 to 07:30. Common diagnoses include cellulitis, sepsis, dehydration, electrolyte imbalance, syncope, anemia, uncontrolled diabetes, acute respiratory failure, liver failure, kidney failure, and behavioral health and addictions. RNs are not required to titrate drips. Common medications include Heparin and Lasix, administered at set rates. A charge nurse is available on each shift and does not take an assignment. Patient care technicians assist with vital signs, accucheks, bladder scans, and activities of daily living, with a ratio of 1:8-10. Respiratory therapy equipment includes BiPAP and CPAP for sleep apnea and inhaler administration. Telemetry is monitored remotely, and RNs can view strips on a pack or computer using Phillips monitors. Shifts are scheduled as 3-12 hour shifts from 7:00 to 19:30. Self-scheduling and block scheduling are allowed. Every other weekend is required, Saturday and Sunday for day shifts and Friday and Saturday for night shifts. Holiday requirements may vary. There are no call or standby requirements. Floating to other acute care general medicine areas such as nephrology, neurology, orthopedics, and oncology may be necessary. Any color professional scrubs are acceptable, with no visible tattoos or piercings other than earrings. Orientation will consist of 2-3 shifts. The charting system used is EPIC.
