Emergency Department Registered Nurse (RN) - Travel

Job Summary

This role is for an experienced Registered Nurse to join a dynamic Emergency Department in Utica, New York. The unit is a high-acuity, 64-bed facility, including dedicated areas for triage, acute care, super track, trauma, Clinical Decision Unit (CDU), and psychiatric patients.

The Emergency Department provides comprehensive care to a diverse patient population ranging from newborns and pediatrics to adults and geriatrics. Common diagnoses include stroke, sepsis, trauma, myocardial infarction (MI), cardiac arrest, and respiratory failure.

The successful candidate will provide critical care in a fast-paced environment, managing a wide range of emergent conditions and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care to a diverse population including newborns, pediatrics, adults, and geriatrics presenting with various emergent conditions such as stroke, sepsis, trauma, MI, cardiac arrest, and respiratory failure.
• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care in a high-acuity Emergency Department setting.
• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, monitoring patient responses and adjusting care plans as needed.
• Document all patient care activities accurately and thoroughly in the electronic medical record system.
• Collaborate effectively with physicians, specialists, and other healthcare professionals to deliver comprehensive patient care.
• Float to other units as required by departmental needs.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of two (2) years of recent experience as a Registered Nurse in an Emergency Department setting.
• Demonstrated experience with pediatric patients within an ED setting.
• Prior travel nursing experience is required.
• Ability to work in Utica, New York.

Preferred Qualifications

• Charge Nurse capability.

Skills & Competencies

• Proficiency with Epic EMR system.
• Experience with specialty equipment including Rapid Infusor and Arctic Sun.
• Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Competence in managing patients with conditions such as stroke, sepsis, trauma, MI, cardiac arrest, and respiratory failure.

• Current American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Current American Heart Association (AHA) Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
• Current National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
• Current Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification (must be in hand).
