Job Title: Neurodiagnostic Technician

Description:
The Neurodiagnostic Technician applies knowledge to produce high-quality neurodiagnostic studies.
The technician uses professional knowledge to meet or exceed department guidelines.
A thorough understanding and proficiency in neurodiagnostic practice and procedures is required.
Core EEG functions include but are not limited to routine outpatient and inpatient EEGs.
Prolonged routine EEGs are performed to rule out ECM.
Long-term continuous EEGs are conducted in patients.
Outpatient event monitoring is also part of the duties.
Private VEEGs are performed using the 10-20 system for electrode placement.
Adaptation to individual patients' needs is expected within the 10-19 system as indicated.


Advanced EEG functions include monitoring multiple patients' EEG and video in an EMU.
Notations must be made appropriately on the EEG record.
Active evaluation of patients during clinical events is required.
The technician must notify physicians or nursing staff as necessary.
Monitoring patients scheduled for ictal SPECT is part of the role, including detecting seizure onset.
Assistance with the timing of radiotracer injection is necessary.
EEGs are performed in the Interventional Radiology lab.
Intracarotid EEG recording is expected.
Intra-operative EEG brain mapping is also a responsibility.


Quality and safety assurance measures must be monitored to prevent injury during clinical events.
Understanding mechanisms for notifying the appropriate healthcare team is essential.
The technician must maintain electrical safety during all neurodiagnostic testing.
Compliance with minimum standards and infection control standards is mandatory.
Awareness of potential risks such as poor electrode connections and electrical interference is required.


Education related to neurodiagnostic procedures will be provided to patients.
The technician must strive to improve competency and obtain new skills through training.
Non-EEG functions such as evoked potentials and SSEP may be performed.
