Job Title Works under the direction of Director and Foreman, operates a wide variety of heavy equipment and maintenance equipment in support of a variety of maintenance activities including excavating, grading, loading, and related operations and performs skilled maintenance tasks. Location: Hawthorne, NV Salary: $18.32 - $19.99 Hourly Job Type: Full-Time Department: Public Works Division: Road Opening Date: 06/15/2026 Examples of Duties Essential Functions: (Performance of these functions is the reason thejob exists. Assigned job tasks/duties are not limited to the essential functions) Safely maintains and operates assigned equipment to maintain County dirt, gravel and paved roads and County rights of ways; identifies appropriate tasks and equipment to complete maintenance tasks. Types of equipment operated include, but are not limited to, Semi-truck, front end loader, motor grader, bulldozer, rear end dump truck, belly dump trailer, water truck/trailer, lowboy trailer, quad, small utility trailer, fork lift, scissor lift, street sweeper, pickup truck, crack sealer, boom truck, screening plant, roller, sander, truck mounted conveyor, cement mixer, asphalt cutter, auger skid-steer, welder, side-x-side Repairs or replaces asphalt or concrete; covers pot holes; seals cracks in asphalt; installs, cleans and repairs culverts; sprays or removes weeds and brush; performs a variety of other manual tasks including lifting, carrying and use of hand tools. Keeps records of time worked, equipment and supplies used, and conditions observed. Performs routine maintenance and repairs on equipment (adjusts, lubricates, and replaces fluids on equipment); checks for wear and for needed repairs, cleans equipment; cleans, sharpens, and adjusts manual tools. Will be required to assist other County departments, agencies and staff during emergencies or scheduled projects. A high level of teamwork is required. Required to respond to after hours, weekend, holiday and emergency callouts as needed such as snow removal, flooding, fire, or other emergency. Cleans trash and other debris from Dirt and paved roads and right-of-ways. May operate power equipment to accomplish such cleaning. Fuels equipment and vehicles; picks up and delivers materials and equipment, cleans and maintains tools and equipment, maintains work areas in a clean and orderly condition. Observes safe work methods and uses safety equipment; secures work sites from traffic hazards as necessary; attends safety meetings. Other duties as assigned on temporary basis may include: Groundskeeping, cutting trees, clearing weeds, clearing properties, painting, minor building construction, crosswalk painting, blade dirt runways at airport, patch and repair streets, easements and sidewalks, screen sand or gravel, snow removal Typical Qualifications Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: (KSA's are the attributes required to perform a job; generally demonstrated through qualifying experience, education or training). Knowledge of: Capabilities, operational characteristics, adjustment and preventive maintenance of the types of construction equipment to which assigned. Public works maintenance, construction and repair methods and techniques related to the area of assignment. Use and maintenance of hand and power tools related to the work. Traffic laws and ordinances applicable to equipment operation. Safety principles, practices and equipment related to the work. Skills to: Practicing safe work procedures and practices Use and/or operate a variety of equipment skillfully and safely Driving a variety of vehicles skillfully and safely Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing Maintaining accurate records of work performed Working independently in remote geographical areas Adjusting and performing preventative maintenance on the equipment to which assigned Recognizing potentially hazardous situations on the job site and taking appropriate action Ability to: Perform supervisory duties in the area assigned; Identify construction needs for assigned projects; Maintain accurate logs and records; Perform a variety of manual tasks for extended periods of time in unfavorable weather conditions; Excavate, level, cut, and distribute earth and trenches; Perform street paving and asphalt laying functions; Perform unskilled and semi-skilled maintenance, construction, and repair work in the area of work assigned; Perform heavy manual labor; Work independently in the absence of supervision; and understand and follow oral and written instructions Supplemental Information Required Certifications and Licenses: Applicant must have a High School Diploma or equivalent. Must possess and maintain a valid Nevada issued Class A CDL with endorsements.
