Assistant or Associate Professor of Urban Planning and Design - Spatial Analysis and Technology

The Department of Urban Planning and Design at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design (GSD) seeks to appoint a full‑time, tenure‑track assistant or associate professor who engages spatial, geospatial, and data visualization technologies in applied design and planning tools and as objects of critical inquiry. Responsibilities and Teaching Candidates will demonstrate hands‑on experience and skill in using novel spatial and geospatial data sources, advanced analytics, computational modeling, and will incorporate qualitative and quantitative data in planning or design applications in areas such as housing, urban development, urban form, neighborhood change, infrastructure, environmental adaptation, and transportation. They should be committed to interdisciplinary engagement across the school and related departments, support free inquiry and collegial collaboration, and contribute to inclusive and engaged teaching practices. Qualifications Doctoral degree in urban design, urban planning, geography, public policy, or a related discipline focused on urbanization, or an equivalent terminal degree for practitioners. Evidence of strong research productivity appropriate to career stage, including refereed publications and national and international conference presentations. Willingness and potential to secure external grant funds and lead research teams of graduate students and postdoctoral associates.
