Drone Development Technician

Who We Are

XCaliber Technologies is a defense technology company building the next generation of autonomous air defense. We develop integrated Counter UAS systems combining autonomy, sensing, command and control, and purpose built aircraft to detect, track, and defeat evolving aerial threats.

We are a small, fast moving team where your work directly shapes the aircraft we build and the capabilities we deliver to protect people and strengthen national security.

The Role

We are looking for an experienced, self sufficient technician to build, configure, test, troubleshoot, and improve our unmanned aircraft.

You will own complete aircraft builds and keep them moving through testing, repairs, and iteration. Working closely with our engineers, you will diagnose problems, implement practical improvements, and help make each aircraft more reliable, serviceable, and consistent to build.

This role requires someone who can organize their work, make sound technical judgments, and take problems through to resolution with minimal day to day supervision.

What You Will Do

• Build complete aircraft from components, including mechanical assembly, propulsion, electronics, wiring harnesses, sensors, and communications hardware.
• Configure flight controllers and onboard electronics, load approved firmware, and verify that aircraft systems function correctly together.
• Perform inspections, bench tests, and ground checks, and support flight testing from aircraft preparation through postflight troubleshooting.
• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and configuration problems using measurements, test results, and flight logs. Identify root causes, complete repairs, and verify that the issue is resolved.
• Turn test findings into practical improvements to builds, wiring, component installation, serviceability, and assembly methods, coordinating design changes with engineers.
• Manage aircraft readiness, repairs, and rebuilds so testing can continue efficiently.
• Maintain accurate build records, component lists, configuration details, repair histories, and test notes so successful results can be repeated.
• Improve assembly instructions, checklists, and workshop practices as prototypes develop into repeatable production hardware.

What We Are Looking For

• Demonstrated experience independently building, configuring, testing, and repairing complete drones.
• Strong mechanical assembly, soldering, crimping, and wiring skills, with consistent attention to workmanship and reliability.
• Practical understanding of how propulsion, batteries, power electronics, flight controllers, sensors, and communications work together.
• Strong troubleshooting ability, including confidence using electrical measurement equipment and interpreting configuration settings and test logs.
• Ability to work from engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, and build instructions, and resolve incomplete or unclear information with the engineering team.
• Evidence of improving hardware through repeated build, test, diagnose, and repair cycles.
• Ability to prioritize work, anticipate parts and tooling needs, communicate blockers early, and follow through without constant direction.
• Willingness to work directly with aircraft in the workshop and participate in field testing.

Relevant experience may come from professional drone development, aerospace maintenance, robotics, military technical work, or substantial independent projects. A university degree is not required.

Nice to Have

• Experience with PX4, ArduPilot, Betaflight, or similar flight controller platforms.
• Practical flight experience with multirotor or fixed wing aircraft.
• Experience with CAD, 3D printing, composite repairs, or light fabrication.
• Experience developing assembly fixtures, test setups, work instructions, or quality checks for repeatable production.

Direct defense experience is valuable but not required.

Show Us What You Have Built and Improved

We welcome examples of complete aircraft you have built, difficult faults you have diagnosed, and improvements you have made after testing. Photos, videos, build logs, or a discussion of your technical contribution are useful. xhyhwjd

We value ownership, sound judgment, and the ability to get aircraft working reliably and keep making them better.
