Maintenance technician

Maintenance Technician | Plastics Extrusion, PLC Troubleshooting & Industrial Automation (Support high-speed blown and cast film extrusion equipment through mechanical, electrical, and automation maintenance to maximize production uptime.)

Location: Mundelein, IL

Shift: 1st Shift | 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM or 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM

Pay: $35.00/hr + Overtime (Non-Exempt)

Role Summary: Randstad USA is seeking a skilled Maintenance Technician for a direct hire opportunity with a growing plastics manufacturing operation in Mundelein, IL. This position supports advanced blown and cast film extrusion equipment, auxiliary systems, and PLC-controlled automation. The ideal candidate has strong mechanical troubleshooting skills with experience supporting automated manufacturing equipment and industrial controls.

Qualifications & Skills: Required:

• 3+ years of industrial maintenance experience
• Experience in plastics extrusion, blow molding, or high-speed manufacturing preferred
• strong troubleshooting skills in:
  • Mechanical systems
  • Electrical systems
  • Hydraulics
  • Pneumatics
• Experience working with:
  • PLC troubleshooting
  • Ladder logic navigation
  • PLC I/O diagnostics
  • HMIs
  • Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs)
  • Servo motors
• Ability to read electrical schematics and mechanical blueprints
• strong understanding of Lockout/Tagout and OSHA safety practices

Preferred:

• Experience supporting blown film or cast film extrusion equipment
• Experience maintaining industrial chillers, granulators, and auxiliary processing equipment
• Knowledge of industrial automation and process controls

Training Program:

• 30-day individualized technical training program
• Hands-on learning with experienced maintenance personnel
• Study of machine manuals, engineering documentation, and equipment-specific procedures
• All training completed during regular first shift hours

Compensation & Benefits:

• $35.00/hr
• Overtime paid after 40 hours

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot and repair blown film and cast film extrusion lines
• Maintain extrusion dies, air rings, winders, and material handling equipment
• Repair and maintain plant support equipment including:
  • Industrial process chillers
  • Material grinders and granulators
  • Hydraulic and pneumatic systems
  • Pumps and gearboxes
• Troubleshoot electrical systems up to 480V 3-phase
• Repair motors, AC/DC drives, sensors, heaters, and electrical controls
• Perform preventative maintenance to reduce downtime and improve equipment reliability
• Troubleshoot PLC I/O issues and verify signal integrity
• Connect to PLCs using laptops to identify hardware and software faults
• Troubleshoot HMIs, VFDs, servo motors, temperature controllers, and pressure controls
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, hydraulic diagrams, and mechanical blueprints
• Follow Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), OSHA, and plant safety procedures at all times
