Sales Tax Accountant

Overview NuCO 2 is the only national provider of beverage grade carbon dioxide solutions to the restaurant and hospitality industry. NuCO 2 services over 170,000 customers and carbonates over 43 million drinks every day to national chains and local restaurants, convenience stores, theme parks and sports/entertainment venues. Position Summary Hybrid Role We are seeking a detail-oriented Sales Tax Accountant to join our Finance team. In this role, you will support multi-state sales tax compliance, including filings, payments, exemption certificate management, and business licensing. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build expertise in indirect tax while contributing to automation and process improvement initiatives in a dynamic, high-volume environment. Key Responsibilities Prepare and file sales tax returns across multiple state and local jurisdictions Process and reconcile tax payments (electronic and check), ensuring accuracy and timeliness Partner with internal teams and external agencies to resolve tax payment issues or discrepancies Assist with sales tax audits and respond to jurisdictional inquiries Exemption Certificate Management Review, validate, and maintain resale and exemption certificates to ensure compliance Track expirations and proactively manage renewals Support implementation and maintenance of electronic certificate management systems Business Licensing Process new business licenses and renewals across multiple jurisdictions Monitor upcoming expirations and ensure timely renewals Maintain accurate records and documentation for licensing compliance Process Improvement & Special Projects Support initiatives to automate tax processes and improve efficiency Assist with system enhancements and third-party tax/payment solutions Research and resolve outstanding payments with taxing authorities Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred (Associate degree with relevant experience considered) 1-3 years of accounting or indirect tax experience Familiarity with multi-state sales and use tax compliance preferred Strong Excel skills (data analysis, lookups, pivot tables) Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) or tax software (e.g., Avalara, Vertex) is a plus Highly detail-oriented with strong organizational and problem-solving skills Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment Effective communication and collaboration skills NuCO2 provides competitive pay and an exceptional benefits package, including health, dental, disability, and life insurance; paid holidays and vacation; a 401(k) retirement plan; employee discounts; and opportunities for educational and professional development.
