Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Labor and Delivery Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: 12-Hour Days Hours per Shift: 34.5 hours per week Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Required Certifications: ACLS BLS (AHA) NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) Must-Have: BSN required Description: This unit has 14 beds. Five beds are used as triage/inpatient beds. There are six labor beds and two operating room beds. Candidates must have high-risk experience and be strong nurses comfortable with a fast-paced environment. Nurses perform full assessments and conduct their own exams. Candidates cannot insert intrauterine pressure catheters (IUPCs). C-sections are completed on the unit. The unit handles high-risk obstetrics patients. Low-risk antepartum patients are placed on the obstetrics side, not labor and delivery. Magnesium sulfate patients will be taken to labor and delivery. The unit features a charge nurse who does not take patients three days a week. There is also a unit leader present. Nurse aides and scrub techs assist on the unit. Every third weekend, nurses are required to work. Weekend shifts consist of three weekend shifts within a four-week period. Night shift requirements include working Friday and Saturday. There is 24/7 coverage by a hospitalist or intensivist. An IV team is available at all times. The pharmacy is operational 24/7. Nurses may float to the obstetrics or nursery areas but will not take patients in those roles. Charting is conducted in two systems. Epic is used for documentation. Nurses are expected to demonstrate customer service skills. Candidates should be prepared to discuss their skills and patient assignments.
