Job Summary Dr. Christina Mangurian (PI) has received funding from the Department of State Hospitals (DSH) to direct a clinical research program related to the provision of mental health treatment/assessment in a forensic psychiatric system and evaluating the impact of relevant policies on this system. This research is a collaborative effort between the DSH and UCSF. The research is related to a variety of forensic psychiatric issues, including risk assessment, risk management, malingering, competence restoration and other issues as dictated by the needs of the DSH. The position involves working with severely mentally ill patients committed to the state hospitals via the criminal justice system. The Clinical Research Coordinator (CRC) will perform independently and with general direction at the fully operational journey level of the series to execute, manage, and coordinate research and study protocols, as directed by the Principal Investigator (Dr. Christina Mangurian) and the Program Manager (Ms. Claudine Catledge). The CRC will be responsible for mastering large databases, creating excellent working relationships with all state hospitals necessary to maintain research activities, recruiting subjects for research, conducting structured assessments of competence, symptom ratings, and assessments of malingering in psychiatric patients patients, thorough record reviews, including criminal justice documents such as criminal arrest history, data entry, development of databases, maintaining research records, and other research related duties. Strong skills in human psychological research or a related field are necessary. The CRC will coordinate the data collection and operations of research studies and program evaluation under the guidelines of research protocols, UCSF and regulating agency policies. The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement. Required Qualifications HS graduation and sufficient experience and demonstrated skills to successfully perform the assigned duties and responsibilities; and/or equivalent experience/training. Demonstrated skill in applied human research, preferably in mental health or a related field. Training/knowledge of research methodology and design in clinical human research. Proficiency to effectively use the PC and software such as Word, Access, Excel, and SPSS (data analysis software). Demonstrated strong organizational skills to manage large program development databases. Demonstrated good interpersonal skills to facilitate and maintain relationships with others. Ability to work well independently, complete projects in a timely manner, and prioritize multiple projects to ensure the completion of essential tasks by deadlines. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree in psychology or related field. Understanding of DSH patient population to create rapport and a relationship, while also giving insight to what is realistic and appropriate for patient participation. Experience with the DSH databases. Certification by the Society of Clinical Research Associates or the Association of Clinical Research Professionals. Experience with electronic medical records. Fluency in the usage of Institutional Review Board (IRB) online iMEDris system for submission, renewal, and modification of protocols through this system. Knowledge of UCSF and departmental policies for dealing with reimbursement, guidelines for research, confidentiality and HIPPA regulations, following the UCSF mission statement and purpose for research, and a clear understanding of policies and procedures on patient safety and confidentiality (electronic and hard copy medical records, patient charts, communication, etc.); knowledge of medical terminology, research policies and guidelines, guidelines for packing/shipping infectious substances, database building/analysis, and data management within some of the following: Access, Stata, SASS/ SPSS, and Teleform programming platforms.
