Job Title: Welder Job Description

This role involves performing high-quality welding on structural and pressure components using multiple welding processes in a busy steel industry environment. You will review weld procedures and blueprints, set up and operate welding equipment, and ensure all work meets strict quality and safety standards while supporting production goals across different shifts.

Responsibilities

• Review weld procedures, job travelers, and prints before starting each job to understand specifications and requirements.

• Set up and operate welding equipment for Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW/MIG), Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW/Stick), and Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW/TIG).

• Perform welding on structural and pressure components in accordance with job specifications, codes, and quality standards.

• Clean welds and prepare surfaces for inspection, ensuring proper finishing and appearance.

• Inspect welds for quality, consistency, and adherence to applicable standards and procedures.

• Use grinders and other finishing tools to dress and refine welds as required.

• Maintain safe work practices at all times, including consistent use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).

• Assist with material handling using cranes, hoists, or forklifts as needed to support production activities.

• Keep the work area clean, organized, and free of hazards while meeting productivity and throughput expectations.

• Participate in written and weld testing as part of the qualification and ongoing evaluation process.

Essential Skills

• Basic to advanced welding aptitude across multiple processes, including MIG (GMAW), TIG (GTAW), and Stick (SMAW) welding.

• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, weld procedures, and job travelers accurately.

• Familiarity with common welding tools and shop equipment, including grinders and finishing tools.

• Experience working with materials such as mild steel, stainless steel, carbon steel, aluminum, sheet metal, and structural steel.

• Capability to perform structural welding and fabrication work in a production environment.

• Proficiency in MIG welding, TIG welding, Stick welding, and flux core welding techniques.

• Strong commitment to workplace safety and consistent PPE compliance.

• Reliable attendance and punctuality in line with company standards.

• Ability to complete a written test to demonstrate basic welding knowledge.

• Comfort working in hot and cold conditions typical of the steel industry and performing physically demanding tasks.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Degree or certification in welding is preferred.

• Experience with applicable welding codes and pressure vessel welding is a plus.

• Multi-process welding experience at a production level in a fabrication or heavy manufacturing environment.

• Prior experience working in fabrication shops or heavy manufacturing facilities.

• Crane or forklift experience to support material handling activities.

• Strong fitting skills and experience with structural steel fabrication.

• Ability to perform precise welding on stainless steel, carbon steel, and aluminum components.

• Experience with wire feed welding processes and flux core techniques.

• Solid blueprint reading skills for complex assemblies and structures.

Work Environment

This position is based in a steel industry setting with exposure to both hot and cold conditions, and you should expect to get dirty while performing daily tasks. The facility operates multiple shifts, including a first shift from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and a second shift from 3:15 p.m. to 11:45 p.m., with openings on both shifts. You will work with industrial welding equipment, grinders, finishing tools, cranes, hoists, and potentially forklifts in a busy production environment. The role emphasizes consistent use of appropriate PPE and adherence to safety procedures, with a focus on maintaining a clean, organized, and efficient work area.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Struthers, OH.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr.
