Software Engineer - Embedded Systems | Marine Autonomous Vehicle

We are seeking a senior embedded software engineer to maintain and advance the C-based control systems inside our autonomous ocean‑profiling floats. This role supports autonomous, buoyancy‑driven ocean floats deployed permanently at sea. The engineer will split time between maintaining existing float control software and driving new R&D development, working directly with hardware on the bench to build, test, and refine bare‑metal C code running on ARM microcontrollers. Additionally, the engineer will own the decoder software that supports customer data delivery. Experience needed Senior‑level experience writing embedded C for resource‑constrained, low‑memory systems Direct experience programming ARM microcontrollers Working knowledge of Linux‑based embedded systems (required) Bare‑metal/bootloader‑level development experience (no OS) strongly preferred Comfortable working at the software‑hardware boundary using schematics, datasheets, and lab equipment Java experience (used on shore‑side software) Nice to have Background in marine robotics, autonomous vehicles, or other harsh‑environment engineering a plus We are a robotics company that designs and builds autonomous vehicles used to collect long‑term environmental data supporting scientific and climate research.
