LICENSED PRACTICAL NURSE 3

Overview Under general supervision, responsible for licensed practical nursing duties of average difficulty including leading others in work and performing related duties. This lead level class in the Licensed Practical Nurse job series is tasked with leading the work of technical nursing staff in hospital, clinic, institution, or home settings, and may be assigned to work days, evenings, nights, and/or weekends. Qualifications Currently licensed as a practical nurse in the State of Tennessee or holds a privilege to practice in the State of Tennessee under the Nurse Licensure Compact. Experience equivalent to two years of licensed practical nursing. Valid motor vehicle operator license may be required. Responsibilities Lead the application of nursing techniques required in care and treatment of patients, advising subordinate staff in policies and procedures. Perform BLS, CPR, and other emergency responses; follow prescribed health care plans or protocols, take patient vital signs, and administer medication. Educate patients and caregivers on maintaining optimal health status, including self‑care such as dressing changes, self‑examinations, activities of daily living, and use of adaptive equipment. Document assessments, care, and education provided to the patient, records of orders followed, medical interventions, completed tests and results, and drug administration/effectiveness. Discuss the patient’s comprehensive health plan with other staff to identify patient or client needs, and provide education to employees and others. Maintain an adequate, current, and secure inventory of health care supplies, reporting discrepancies. Ensure medical equipment and designated work areas are kept clean and serviceable, reporting any maintenance problems or repairs on equipment. Communicate with internal and external entities.
