Under the direction of the Supervisor I, the Analyst II performs varied and complex administrative, consultative, analytical, and policy analysis and formulation assignments related to the pesticide product registration process including oversight to the units of Intake and Coding. The Analyst II is responsible for reviewing, interpreting, and processing submissions that may contain confidential information from pesticide registrants, consultants, state and federal agencies, and the public and assuring the integrity of California Pesticide Electronic System Tracking (CalPEST), a web-based software application that streamlines the pesticide product registration process. The Analyst II oversees the assigning and peer reviewing of all intake and coding assignments within a CalPEST submission, provides evaluation of and recommendations on various intake and coding processes; and recommends appropriate action to ensure the effective processing of submissions. The Analyst II is responsible for managing the Pesticide Registration Branch (PRB) Licensing mailbox and provides timely responses to registrants and stakeholders.

Working Conditions

The duties of this position are performed indoors in a high-rise building under artificial lighting. The candidate must possess the ability to:

• Work indoors in a climate-controlled high-rise building under artificial lighting
• Use a computer monitor, mouse, and keyboard for up to 8 hours per day
• Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds, and frequently bend or squat to obtain product files and data 
• Ability to use office equipment including copiers and scanners

Note: This position may be eligible for hybrid telework under Government Code 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California, subject to the candidate meeting telework eligibility criteria set forth in the CalEPA telework policy and/or future program need. Employees not residing in California are not eligible for telework. Regardless of telework eligibility, all employees may be required to report to the position’s designated headquarters location, as indicated on their duty statement, at their own expense.

Beginning July 1st, 2026, it is anticipated this position will be office-centered and employees will be expected to report to the office at least four days per week.
