Site Manager

$80k - $110k

Knickerbocker Group Inc

Job Description

Job Description

Knickerbocker Group is seeking a proactive and collaborative  Site Manager to help lead the field execution of our distinctive residential and light commercial projects surrounding the Boothbay, Maine + north region.

Our Site Managers bring together people, plans, materials, schedules, and details to keep projects moving safely, efficiently, and to KG’s standards. They set the tone for an organized and respectful jobsite, build strong relationships with our valued trade partners, and work closely with Project Managers, Designers, clients, and other contributors throughout the construction process.

The right candidate combines practical construction knowledge with strong communication, sound judgment, and genuine care for people and the work. They plan ahead, address concerns early, and create an environment where team members understand expectations and have what they need to succeed.

We are ideally seeking someone with established construction experience who is ready to continue growing as a field leader, but we welcome candidates across a range of experience levels. The position level, responsibilities, and compensation will be aligned with the selected candidate’s experience and capabilities.

What You’ll Do

  • Coordinate and oversee day-to-day construction activities, keeping work aligned with project plans, specifications, schedules, safety requirements, and KG quality standards.
  • Develop and communicate short-term plans and look-ahead schedules so employees, subcontractors, vendors, and project partners understand upcoming priorities.
  • Lead site-coordination conversations and proactively address questions, sequencing needs, and potential challenges.
  • Monitor project progress, labor productivity, material needs, site conditions, and anticipated completion milestones.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, professional, and well-organized jobsite.
  • Review work in progress, identify deficiencies or concerns, and collaborate with the appropriate people to implement timely solutions.
  • Provide clear direction, support, and constructive feedback to employees and trade partners while reinforcing accountability and high standards.
  • Work closely with the Project Manager to align field execution with the project scope, schedule, budget, client commitments, and overall strategy.
  • Maintain accurate field documentation, including daily reports, photographs, schedule updates, field variations, and open items.
  • Communicate project progress, emerging needs, and potential impacts early and clearly, offering a recommended path forward whenever possible.
  • Support punch-list completion, project closeout, warranty work, and a successful transition to the client.
  • Perform carpentry or other project-specific work when needed.

What You Bring

Strong candidates will bring many of the following:

  • Construction experience with increasing responsibility for field coordination, supervision, or project execution.
  • Experience in custom residential construction, complex renovations, or similarly detailed work is strongly preferred.
  • The ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, shop drawings, sketches, and product information.
  • Working knowledge of construction methods, sequencing, materials, tools, jobsite safety, and quality standards.
  • Experience coordinating employees, subcontractors, vendors, materials, schedules, and changing field conditions.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to build productive relationships with clients, colleagues, and trade partners.
  • A proactive, resourceful approach to planning and problem-solving, with the judgment to act independently, collaborate, or seek guidance as appropriate.
  • Strong organization, time management, documentation, and follow-through.
  • Comfort using, or a willingness to learn, Microsoft Office and project-management or field-documentation systems.
  • OSHA 10 certification.
  • A valid driver’s license and the ability to travel regularly to project sites.
  • A construction-related degree, technical education, apprenticeship, or comparable field experience is welcome but not required. If your experience does not align perfectly with every qualification but you believe you could grow into and contribute meaningfully to this role, we encourage you to apply.

Work Environment

This is a field-based position that cannot be performed remotely. Regular travel to active project sites is required. The role involves working in indoor and outdoor construction environments and requires the ability to move throughout jobsites, use ladders, and regularly lift or carry materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Compensation

The anticipated salary range for this position is $80,000 - $110,000 annually. Starting salary will be thoughtfully determined based on the selected candidate’s relevant experience, qualifications, and skills, along with internal equity, and may fall anywhere within the posted range.

Benefits at KG

KG offers a competitive compensation and benefits package designed to support employees at work and beyond, including:

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance, with the majority of premiums covered by the company.
  • Health Savings Account options.
  • A 401(k) plan with an automatic 3% employer contribution after one year regardless of employee's contribution.
  • Participation in our Employee Stock Ownership Plan.
  • Company-paid life insurance and short- and long-term disability coverage.
  • Maine Paid Family and Medical Leave and other applicable leave benefits.
  • Generous paid time off, holidays, and floating holidays.
  • Continuing education and professional-development support.
  • An Employee Assistance Program and employer-sponsored pet insurance.
