Forklift Operator / Material Handler (1st Shift)

This role focuses on safe and efficient forklift operation and material handling in a busy manufacturing environment. You will manage incoming and outgoing materials, support production by accurately picking and staging components, and maintain an organized and compliant storage area. The position requires strong attention to detail, consistent adherence to safety practices, and the ability to work on your feet throughout the shift.

Responsibilities

• Operate a sit-down forklift and pallet jack safely and efficiently in a busy manufacturing and warehouse environment.
• Handle materials throughout the facility, including picking, packing, loading, unloading, and staging items for production and shipping.
• Verify transactions for incoming shipments to ensure accuracy of quantities, descriptions, and documentation.
• Load and unload freight and steel coils, ensuring secure handling and proper placement.
• Prepare outgoing shipments, including completing related paperwork and documentation as required.
• Pick materials such as coils, dies, containers, and components for work orders and deliver them to the appropriate production areas.
• Properly store materials and related items in designated locations to maintain order and accessibility.
• Maintain the storage area by organizing inventory, keeping aisles clear, and supporting general housekeeping standards.
• Weigh items as needed and record weights accurately for inventory and shipping purposes.
• Prepare and apply labels and tags to materials, containers, and pallets to ensure clear identification and traceability.
• Use RF scanners or similar devices to perform order picking, inventory tracking, and cycle counts.
• Support shipping and receiving activities, including packaging, general labor tasks, and warehouse inventory control.
• Follow all safety procedures at all times, remain aware of surroundings, and avoid shortcuts that could compromise safety.
• Wear required personal protective equipment on the shop floor and adhere to all facility safety rules.
• Perform frequent walking and standing throughout the shift and assist with other production or warehouse tasks as needed.

Work Environment

This position is based on the shop floor and warehouse area of a busy manufacturing facility. The role follows a 1st shift schedule, typically from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and involves frequent walking, standing, bending, reaching, pushing, and pulling throughout the day. You will work around production equipment, steel coils, and other industrial materials while using sit-down forklifts, pallet jacks, RF scanners, and standard shipping and packaging tools. The environment emphasizes safety and requires wearing personal protective equipment at all times on the shop floor. The storage and warehouse areas require organized material flow, clear labeling, and adherence to housekeeping standards to keep aisles and workspaces clean and accessible.

Job Type & Location

This is a contract to hire position based out of Valley City, OH.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
