Patient Care Nurse Assistant (PCNA)

St. John Medical Center in Westlake offers full-time and part-time positions for patient care nurse assistants (PCNA) in various units including the emergency department, 3 North and 3 South (med/surg), step down unit, MICU, ortho, PACU, and central nursing administration. Day and night shifts are available based on current openings.

The PCNA completes patient care activities and provides clerical support as delegated by the RN. PCNAs perform duties including, but not limited to: ADLs, vital signs, I&O, 12-lead ECG, bladder scan, hygiene, and venipuncture (where applicable). They are familiar with using wheelchair, EKG equipment, patient assistive devices, and patient care equipment specific to assigned population. They assist with patient data collection and reporting, maintain the patient record, facilitate communication and efficient unit operations, and orient newly hired PCNAs.

Performs basic patient care tasks as delegated by the RN and assists, under the direction of the RN, in the implementation of the established plan of care. Compassionate in all interactions with patients, families, and peers. Follows established evidence-based prevention guidelines to promote positive patient outcomes. Provides a safe environment in patient rooms and on unit. Facilitates stocking and ordering of supplies for patient care. Assists with unit communication. Acts as a key resource for onboarding and training new team members. Performs other duties as assigned. Complies with all policies and standards. Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients.

Education: High School Equivalent / GED (Required)

Work Experience: Experience in a hospital setting (Preferred)

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Basic patient care skills. Effective communication with people from varied socioeconomic backgrounds. Able to organize changing work assignments. Flexibility. Patient focused. Positive, can-do attitude; self-motivated and willing to learn. Basic computer data entry skills. Able to communicate effectively in English, both written and verbal.

Licenses and Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) (Required within 90 Days)

Physical Demands: Standing, walking, sitting, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, repetitive motions, eye/hand/foot coordination.

Travel Requirements: 10%
