Precision Manufacturing Quality Team Lead (GD&T and Inspection)

Lead Quality for a Proven Automotive Manufacturer in Camarillo, CA

We’ve been machining since 1967. With ~60 employees, 3 buildings, and about 35 CNC machines, we deliver high-precision parts for a major automotive brand. Quality is our reputation—and your leadership advances it.

Why this role exists

• Guide a growing Quality function—oversee two inspectors today with a path to four.
• Ensure drawings and GD&T translate into conforming parts, every time.
• Strengthen ISO 9001 and AS9100 systems and documentation.
• Support inspection needs across multiple buildings and shifts.
• Partner with machinists and supervisors to solve problems at the source.

Core responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day quality activities; mentor and coach junior quality staff.
• Hands-on dimensional inspection using micrometers, calipers, indicators, gauges, and surface plate methods.
• Read/interpret engineering drawings and specifications; select appropriate inspection tools and methods.
• Apply GD&T rigorously during inspections and when advising production teams.
• Author/process NMRs and support corrective action initiatives.
• Build and maintain procedures aligned with ISO 9001 and AS9100.
• Contribute to hiring, performance reviews, and team development.
• Foster collaboration and continuous improvement across the shop.

Time allocation guidance:

• ~20%: perform inspections and verify parts
• ~50%: coach, mentor, and support employees
• ~30%: complete documentation, reporting, and admin tasks

Schedule and reporting

• Reports to: Director of Manufacturing
• Start time: 7:00 AM
• Shifts supported: first and second
• Overtime: occasional, as business needs require

Qualifications

Required

• 3–5 years in quality inspection, quality supervision, machining, or manufacturing; or 10+ years machining with strong inspection background.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering blueprints/technical drawings.
• Extensive GD&T knowledge.
• Skilled with micrometers, calipers, indicators, gauges, and surface plate inspection.
• Ability to choose suitable inspection methods and measurement tools by feature.
• Working knowledge of QMS standards, especially ISO 9001 and AS9100.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills; effective coach and collaborator.

Preferred

• Experience with CMMs.
• Leadership or supervisory experience in a manufacturing quality setting.
• Background in aerospace or precision manufacturing.

Compensation

California hourly pay target: $30–$40. Actual compensation is based on experience and other factors allowed by law.
