Role: Azure AKS Platform Architect (Kubernetes, Cilium, Gateway API)
- Define and lead architecture for Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) platform
- Design greenfield and manage bluefield AKS cluster strategies
- Lead migration from NGINX ingress to Azure Managed Gateway API
- Architect network transformation from kubenet to Azure CNI (Cilium)
- Establish platform-level standards for security, networking, and operations
- Drive cloud-native architecture aligned with scalability and performance goals
- Collaborate with engineering and DevOps teams for implementation
- Define and enforce DevOps and GitHub governance standards
- Own non-functional requirements such as availability, scalability, and DR
- Mentor teams on Kubernetes best practices and architectural compliance
Responsibilities:
- Define target reference architecture for AKS clusters including control plane and topology
- Design private clusters, node pool strategies, and upgrade paths
- Lead NGINX to Azure Managed Gateway API migration including routing and traffic strategies
- Implement and Gateway configurations with TLS and WAF policies
- Architect kubenet to Azure CNI (Cilium) migration including IP planning and subnet design
- Define pod density, surge capacity, and workload migration strategies
- Evaluate and implement Cilium features such as network policies and observability (Hubble)
- Standardize identity and secrets management using Azure Key Vault and CSI drivers
- Implement RBAC, Azure Policy, and multi-tenancy isolation strategies
- Define CI/CD and GitHub governance including workflows, approvals, and security controls
- Ensure system performance, HA/DR, failover, and capacity planning
- Govern delivery roadmap, readiness gates, and cutover strategies
Essential Skills:
- Strong hands-on experience with Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS)
- Expertise in Kubernetes networking including Azure CNI and Cilium
- Experience with Gateway API and ingress controllers (NGINX, Azure Managed Gateway)
- Deep knowledge of IP planning, subnetting, and pod networking
- Experience with Azure Key Vault and secrets management
- Strong understanding of RBAC, Azure Policy, and security best practices
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and GitHub governance
- Knowledge of high availability, disaster recovery, and performance optimization
- Strong troubleshooting and performance tuning skills
- Ability to lead complex migrations and platform transformations
