ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Ensure that all HPSI safety procedures, rules and regulations are communicated, understood, and followed
• Perform the duties of a Shipyard Competent Person (SCP) on a daily basis (training provided)
• Assist the HSE Department with informal inspections of work sites to monitor compliance with safety standards, identify potential hazards, and document findings
• Conduct daily housekeeping inspections of vessels under construction to ensure work areas are maintained in a safe condition
• Follow up on work sites throughout the shift to verify conditions remain compliant with confined space entry permit requirements
• Assist production teams in setting up and maintaining proper lighting and ventilation
• Collaborate with production supervisors and employees to develop practical solutions to safety and environmental concerns
• Perform other related duties as required and assigned

• Demonstrates strong teamwork skills, particularly in resolving challenges and problem situations
• Communicates effectively, both verbally and in writing
• Possesses proficiency in the English language

SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITY

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position requires a routine presence in an industrial shipyard setting, including shipboard, fabrication shops, and outdoor work areas with uneven terrain where multiple stairway use or accessing scaffold systems may be required. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and physical mobility to navigate active worksites are essential. Environmental exposures are similar to those found in most heavy industrial settings and may include noise, heat, cold, vibration, dust, fumes and smoke. Work may be carried out indoors or outdoors, and may involve exposure to inclement weather conditions.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Although the position is not directly involved in production, the successful candidate must still possess the physical abilities necessary to work in the industrial environment. Consequently, a range of motion sufficient to perform lifting, carrying, bending, climbing, working at heights, working in confined spaces, extended walking or standing, medically cleared to wear a respirator / SCBA, etc. is required. Employment in this position is contingent upon passing the medical examination. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

This is an on-site, full-time, safety-sensitive position. Standard days and hours of work vary, days and hours determined by department schedules. Work schedule for this position is anticipated to be Monday-Friday. May be expected to work holidays, evenings or weekends dependent upon the needs of the department.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• High School diploma or GED equivalent required.
• Minimum 2 - 3 years' experience in heavy construction or closely related industry preferred.
• Experience as an emergency services responder a plus, but not required.
