We are currently hiring substitute food service workers to join our food service team beginning with the 2025-2026 school year. Please apply as soon as possible for best consideration.

Interview process: If selected for an interview, you will be invited to complete an asynchronous virtual interview. Candidates chosen for a second round interview will participate in in-person interviews at a date to be determined.

Schedule: This is a substitute position with no guarantee of hours or days for the 2025-26 school year.

Location: Multiple locations

Salary: $17.50 per hour

FLSA status: Non-exempt (overtime eligible)

Benefits: Other fringe benefits as allowed under school board policies and procedures and the educational support personnel collective bargaining agreement.

Overview

Under the direction of the food services director, this position performs routine work in setting-up, preparing, and serving food, and clean-up activities while maintaining sanitary conditions.

Requirements

• Possession of a current state of Washington department of health food handler's certificate.
• Prior school food service experience preferred (not required).
• Ability to pass a federal criminal background check.
• Ability to transport food containers (with assistance) weighing at least 100 pounds.
• Possession of excellent communication skills including active listening and two-way communication.
• Ability and willingness to learn and implement new strategies and techniques.
• Ability and willingness to work with students with varying disabilities both cognitive and physical.

Essential Functions

• Prepares and serves meals, helps unload van, keeps appropriate food either hot or cold, and sets up serving lines.
• Directs assigned personnel, students, workers, and/or volunteers.
• Cleans utensils, equipment, and the areas used for storage, food preparation, and serving.
• Stores and disposes of unused food and gets food ready for transport.
• Transports food containers of varying weights and sizes.
• Orders supplies and goods necessary for serving meals; provides inventories to main kitchen when appropriate.
• Maintains appropriate refrigerator and freezer temperatures.
• Manages daily participation counts and amounts of food used.
• Attends trainings and meetings as appropriate or directed.
• Develops and maintains positive, professional relationships with staff and students.
• Performs related duties as assigned.
