We are hiring experienced Phlebotomists to support the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center in Houston. This role provides blood-collection services for inpatient units and the outpatient draw clinic in a fast-paced, Veteran-focused environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform venipuncture and capillary collections for 4080 patients daily, including difficult draws.
• Collect blood cultures, urine specimens, and support glucose tolerance testing.
• Verify patients using two identifiers and follow all VA/Joint Commission standards.
• Label, transport, and process specimens; complete LIS accessioning.
• Communicate with clinical staff regarding orders, add-ons, and results.
• Follow all safety, infection control, and HIPAA/privacy requirements.
• Maintain professionalism, customer service, and accurate documentation.

Requirements

• 2+ years phlebotomy experience (within the last 3 years).

• Phlebotomy Certification and BLS required.

• Ability to stand/walk for long periods and lift 25+ lbs.

• Strong communication skills and comfort working with diverse patient populations.

• Must complete VA background check, fingerprinting, and mandatory training.

Preferred

• Hospital or high-volume clinical experience.

• Prior VA or federal healthcare experience.
