Civil Service PositionThis is a civil service position. Applicants must either be a current custodian or currently active on a custodian civil service list. Hourly rate: $20.39 - $28.55 (commensurate with experience) Hours of work: 10:00 am to 6:30 pm Monday thru Friday - 12 month position Building: Middle SchoolExamples of duties:Sweeps, mops, vacuums, and washes floors and stairsUses heavy mechanical equipment in stripping, waxing, and polishing floorsDusts chairs, tables, desks, and other furniturePolishes furniture and brassEmpties wastebaskets and collects and disposes of trashArranges chairs and tables and other equipment for special use of buildingRepairs window shades, replaces light bulbs, soap, and towelsMoves furniture, supplies, and other equipmentCleans walls, bath fixtures, equipment, and furnitureMay clear snow and ice from walksMows lawns, trims shrubs, rakes leaves, and performs a variety of other groundskeeping tasks as assignedMay assist in the operation and maintenance of an oil or gas-fired low-pressure heating systemWashes windows, walls, blackboards, sinks, and other fixturesMakes minor plumbing, carpentry, painting, and electrical repairsPrepares and maintains simple records and reportsRequired knowledges, skills, and abilities:Working knowledge of common cleaning and disinfecting methods, materials, and equipmentSkill in the use of cleaners and maintenance equipment (e.g., vacuum cleaner, carpet shampooer, and floor buffer)Skill in the use of grounds maintenance tools and equipment (e.g., trimmers, mowers, and snowblowers)Ability to understand and follow simple oral and written directionsAbility to lift heavy objects and perform work requiring bending, climbing, reaching, and repetitive motionAbility to assist in minor maintenance repair workWillingness to perform routine cleaning and other physical tasksWillingness to be exposed to dust, dirt, grease, grime, offensive sights, and odorsPhysical condition commensurate with the demands of the positionMinimum qualifications: One year of experience in the maintenance or cleaning of buildings.
