FIRE PROTECTION INSPECTOR

Summary You will serve as a FIRE PROTECTION INSPECTOR for the NAS PENSACOLA. Responsibilities You will prepare policy guidance in response to firefighter program related executive orders, public law, regulations, and agency requirements. You will determine measures to reduce or eliminate the potential for fire or explosion. You will verify personnel use the correct personal protection equipment during firefighting incidents to ensure safety. You will identify defects of fire protection systems (e.g., equipment, clothing) to maintain operational efficiency. You will establish on-scene control procedures (e.g., zone control, decontamination) in a hazardous material incident. You will explain work requirements to fire inspectors and other employees related to new or changed procedures. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Providing technical expertise, advice, and supervision in fire protection efforts; 2) Inspecting facilities and structures for fire hazards; 3) Conducting training on fire safety practice and procedures. NOTE: This information must be supported in your resume to be considered for this position. This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications: Firefighter I and II, Airport Firefighter, HAZMAT Operations, Fire Inspector II, and Fire Instructor I. Incumbent will have one year to obtain Public Fire and Life Safety Educator. These certifications must have been awarded by DoD, IFSAC or ProBoard to meet the requirement. Also requires National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT). If you do not possess all of the above certifications, and provide verification with your application, you will be rated ineligible. This appointment may be made permanent without further competition. Education Additional Information This position will be filled as a Temporary Promotion or Term Appointment NTE 2 years (may be extended up to 4 years). This position may be made permanent without further competition, subject to agency approval, funding, and the regulatory requirements of the selected applicant's hiring authority. Employee will be required to work rotating shifts, which may include evenings, weekends, holidays and/or one 24-hour shift per week. May be subject to recall. May be required to participate in on-scene firefighting duties during emergencies, low manning periods or during stand-by hours while on 24-hour shift.
