CADD Support Consultant

Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT)

Location: Metro Atlanta / Local Candidates Only

Work Schedule: Hybrid — currently 3 days per week onsite; work-from-home schedule to be determined during or after the interview

What This Job Really Is:

GDOT is looking for a CADD support and implementation specialist with hands-on experience supporting Bentley engineering-design software in a transportation or public-sector environment.

This is not primarily a general IT help desk position. The successful candidate should be comfortable supporting engineers and CADD users, troubleshooting Bentley software, maintaining CADD workspaces and standards, documenting workflows and best practices, testing software changes, and helping users adopt new or updated CADD tools.

The strongest candidates will already have experience with Bentley OpenRoads Designer, OpenBridge Modeler, MicroStation, InRoads, or similar Bentley CADD products .

What You’ll Do:

• Provide day-to-day technical support to GDOT CADD users.
• Troubleshoot user issues submitted through the ServiceNow ticketing system.
• Install and support CADD software for internal users.
• Assist external users with GDOT workspace installation and configuration.
• Support development, testing, and implementation of CADD software and workspaces.
• Help maintain GDOT engineering-software standards, workflows, and technical documentation.
• Develop how-to guides, best practices, workflows, and other user documentation.
• Determine effective ways to use Bentley software and GDOT workspaces to support engineering design and plan-production requirements.
• Help develop and deliver CADD software and workspace training.
• Document and revise business processes when CADD software or engineering requirements change.
• Evaluate new and emerging CADD technologies and make implementation recommendations to GDOT personnel and management.
• Support legacy Bentley and GDOT CADD environments when necessary.

Must-Have Qualifications:

You should have at least 2 years of experience in each of the following areas:

• Working directly with CADD software in a professional environment.
• Supporting the development, testing, implementation, or maintenance of CADD software and workspaces.
• Documenting or revising business processes, workflows, standards, or procedures related to CADD software.
• Providing technical support to CADD users.

You should also have practical experience with one or more of the following:

• Bentley OpenRoads Designer
• Bentley OpenBridge Modeler
• Bentley MicroStation
• Bentley InRoads
• MicroStation SS2
• CAiCE

Programming Requirement:

The staffing requirements matrix lists 3 years of Visual Basic and/or Python-related experience as required , while the narrative describes Visual Basic as preferred and Python as strongly preferred.

Because those two sections conflict, candidates should assume that programming experience may be treated as a required screening criterion until GDOT confirms otherwise. Python experience will be especially valuable.

• State or local government experience
• Transportation engineering experience
• Experience supporting engineers, designers, or transportation-design teams
• Bentley OpenRoads Designer experience

• Experience developing CADD standards or workspaces
• Experience developing technical training
• ServiceNow experience
• Python scripting
• Visual Basic knowledge

Reasons to Pause Before Applying

• You are not local to Metro Atlanta.
• Your background is primarily general IT support rather than CADD support.
• You have never worked with Bentley engineering software.
• You do not have at least two years supporting CADD software, workflows, or implementations.

• You have no Python or Visual Basic experience, because the employer's requirements are inconsistent about whether programming is preferred or mandatory.

What a Strong Candidate Looks Like

A competitive candidate will likely be someone with roughly 2–5 years of CADD support or transportation-design technology experience who has worked directly with Bentley products and can operate between engineers, end users, software administrators, and management.

They should be able to discuss specific examples of:

• troubleshooting Bentley software
• installing or configuring workspaces
• supporting OpenRoads or MicroStation users
• testing CADD software changes
• creating workflows or standards
• documenting best practices
• training users
• supporting transportation or civil-engineering design environments
