Licensed Practical Nurse

The Licensed Practical Nurse provides hands-on nursing care within the scope of Ohio LPN practice under the direction of a registered nurse or licensed healthcare provider. This position administers medications and treatments, monitors patient conditions, provides direct patient care, maintains accurate medical documentation, and supports patient treatment plans and overall care needs.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care within the scope of Ohio LPN practice under the direction of an authorized healthcare provider.
• Administer medications, oxygen, injections, sterile dressings, catheter care, gastrostomy tube care, suctioning, wound care, and other prescribed treatments.
• Perform dialysis treatments and operate and monitor related equipment, as assigned.
• Assist with examinations, treatments, laboratory procedures, and emergency care, including first aid and CPR.
• Monitor, document, and report patient conditions, medication reactions, treatment responses, behavior, and progress.
• Maintain accurate patient, medication, treatment, and incident documentation.
• Provide direct patient care, including vital signs, hygiene, bathing, activities of daily living, repositioning, and other treatment-plan activities.
• Provide guidance and training to lower-level direct care staff as assigned.
• Participate in team meetings, training programs, and other professional activities.
• Order and maintain medications, medical supplies, and nursing equipment.
• Perform related administrative and clerical duties.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Current license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) issued by the Ohio Board of Nursing pursuant to Section 4723 of the Ohio Revised Code.
• Proof of completion of an approved medication administration course.
• LPNs administering dialysis treatments must possess Certification in IV Therapy pursuant to Section 4723.17 of the Ohio Revised Code.
• Must maintain current LPN licensure and CPR certification.
• Knowledge of practical nursing procedures, pharmacology, patient care, first aid, CPR, HIPAA standards, and healthcare practices.
• Ability to recognize and respond appropriately to emergency or changing patient conditions.
• Ability to safely perform nursing procedures and operate applicable medical equipment.

Working Conditions

• May include nights and weekends with rotating days off.
• May require overtime.
• May involve exposure to bodily fluids, challenging patient behaviors, illness, and/or infectious diseases.
• May require travel to community sites.
