JOB DESCRIPTION

OVERALL OBJECTIVE OF JOB:


To provide every student in the District with the care necessary to achieve and maintain exemplary health standards.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF JOB:

  1. Maintains accurate health and dental records on each pupil.
  2. Completes growth, auditory, and visual screenings and reports deviations from the normal standards to the parent and/or family physician.
  3. Administers first aid to pupils and school personnel according to district policies, procedures, and standing first aid orders.
  4. Administers prescribed medications to students following direction from a written protocol by a physician.
  5. Responds to the health needs of students brought to the health room.
  6. Communicates appropriate information regarding student's health needs and welfare to parents or guardian.
  7. Schedules physical and dental exams.
  8. Prepares and maintains required health reports.
  9. Provides immunizations, tuberculosis testing, exams, and other health programs.
  10. Communicates health related information to parents and physicians.
  11. Prepares materials for bulletin boards, exhibits, and displays.
  12. Provides for the care, storage, inventory, and requisition of equipment and supplies.
  13. Keeps the health room orderly and attractive.
OTHER DUTIES OF JOB:
  1. Organizational and clerical skills
  2. Ability to work with children and understand principles of confidentiality
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:


Receives instruction from the building administrator and Nurse Department Chairperson.
SUPERVISION GIVEN:


None.


WORKING CONDITIONS:
  1. Works indoors in adequate workspace, lighting, ventilation, and temperatures.
  2. Works with average indoor exposure to noise, disruptions, and stress
  3. Normal indoor exposure to dust/dirt.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL CONDITIONS:
  1. Must possess hearing, seeing, speaking, smelling, taste perception, and reasoning senses necessary to carry out job duties.
  2. Must possess ability to record, convey and present information, explain procedures, and follow instructions.
  3. Must be able to sit for long periods throughout the workday with occasional periods of standing, bending, twisting, grasping, kneeling, carrying, pushing/pulling, and reaching necessary to carry out job duties.
  4. Dexterity requirements range from coordinated movements of fingers/hands to operate computer keyboard to simple movements of feet/legs, torso necessary to carry out job duties.
  5. Sedentary work, with occasional lifting/carrying of objects with a maximum weight of ten pounds.
  6. Must be able to pay close attention to details and concentrate on work.
  7. Must be able to apply reasonable skills.
QUALIFICATIONS:


A. EDUCATION/TRAINING:


High School Diploma; RN license; Bachelor's degree in Nursing and PDE Certification; current certificate in First Aide and CPR.


B. WORK EXPERIENCE:


Clinical experience in the medical field


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
  1. Must be able to speak and understand the English language in an understandable manner in order to carry out essential function of job.
  2. Must possess effective communication skills.
  3. Must possess initiative and problem solving skills.
  4. Must possess the ability to function independently, have flexibility, and the ability to work effectively with co-workers and students.
  5. Must possess the ability to maintain confidentiality in regard to District health information and records.
  6. Must possess the technical knowledge of operating personal computers.
  7. Must be able to manage multiple tasks/assignments at one time with speed and accuracy.
