Senior Tax Accountant
Location: Auburn Hills, MI
Job Type: Full-Time
Position Overview
We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Tax Accountant to join our team in Auburn Hills, MI . This position will support corporate tax compliance, tax accounting, financial reporting, and month-end close activities. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of federal and state tax regulations, corporate tax accounting principles, and tax preparation software.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with overall corporate tax filings , including annual federal, state, payroll, and benefit tax returns.
- Prepare and support quarterly tax estimates and payroll tax filings .
- Maintain the company's tax calendar and effectively track statutory and internal filing deadlines.
- Assist with preparation of the company's tax provision and related financial statement disclosures .
- Evaluate book-to-tax differences , particularly those related to fixed assets.
- Utilize tax software to calculate and prepare federal and state tax depreciation reports .
- Work with the Tax Manager to research and respond to government agency inquiries regarding filings, compliance, and other tax claims.
- Research and maintain knowledge of federal and state tax laws, regulations, and current tax developments .
- Support the monthly general ledger close process by calculating, posting, and reviewing financial data.
- Work with internal Project Managers to collect information needed for the monthly revenue recognition process .
- Assist with compiling data for cash flow forecasting .
- Assist with financial statement audit documentation and requests.
- Identify and support process improvements related to tax compliance, reporting, and planning.
- Perform other accounting, tax, and special projects as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Taxation, Finance, or a related field .
- 5+ years of tax-focused accounting experience .
- Strong understanding of corporate tax and accounting principles .
- Experience with federal and state tax compliance .
- Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong Microsoft Office , particularly Excel, skills.
- Experience with accounting and tax software such as ProSystem fx Tax or similar platforms.
Preferred Qualifications
- Public accounting experience preferred.
- Working knowledge of R&D Tax Credits .
- Experience with Foreign Reporting , including Forms 5471 and 5472 .
- Knowledge of Foreign Tax Credits .
- Experience with payroll taxes and payroll tax compliance .
- Experience with tax provisions and related disclosures .
- Knowledge of fixed asset tax accounting and depreciation .
- Experience researching and interpreting federal and state tax regulations .
- Experience assisting with tax process improvements and tax planning .
