Job Details Job Title: Afterschool Staff Job Location: Omaha Zoo – Omaha, NE 68107 Position Type: Part Time FLSA Status: Non‑exempt Classification: Part‑time regular with a tentative end date Hours: Primarily 3:00PM – 6:00PM Monday–Friday, occasional Saturdays and evening meetings Pay Rate: $15.40/hour This is a regular part‑time position working up to an average of 24hours per week, starting August2026 with a tentative end in late spring2027, pending performance. Work schedules may vary week to week, month to month, or seasonally. Summary We are seeking Afterschool Staff to assist with the afterschool programs for children ages five to twelve. The staff will help plan activities and promote development centered around STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). The afterschool programs run for 12months. This part‑time position reports directly to the Afterschool Site Coordinator. Duties and Responsibilities Work with various ages of children and adults while showing enthusiasm for science‑based education. Follow planned lessons for the core service areas. Provide age‑appropriate and open gender programs and activities centered around STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) education. Ensure that cultural diversity and educational programs are implemented. Facilitate interactive programs such as experiments, games, crafts, and other hands‑on activities. Assist with preparation and clean‑up of all activities and meals. Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Must be at least 16years old. Preferred experience working closely with youth (teaching, coaching, camp counseling, tutoring, mentoring). Working toward a certificate or in related areas of youth development. CPR and First Aid Certification preferred. Bilingual (English and Spanish) strongly desired. Must exhibit good leadership qualities. Ability to work independently and in group settings. Candidates may be required to pass a pre‑employment background check, drug test, and additional DHHS screenings. Working Conditions and Physical Effort May work extended/odd hours, including weekends, holidays, and some night programs. Must travel long distances across the zoo. Must stand, sit, kneel, bend, twist, reach above head, and climb. Will lift, push, pull, and/or move up to 15pounds and occasionally up to 25pounds using safe lifting methods.
