Work Environment, Missions, and Activities

You will be welcomed to the GENUTS (Genetics, Nutrition, Systems) team within the BOA (Bird Biology and Aviculture) UMR (Unit Mixte de Recherche) located in Nouzilly (25 km from Tours), under the supervision of Dr. J. Collet. You will also collaborate with Dr. M. Bonneau from the ASSET (Agroecology, Genetics, and Tropical Livestock Systems) UMR based in Guadeloupe.

The BOA unit conducts research on farm birds, from the molecular level to the animal in its environment. Its objective is to produce knowledge in physiology, nutrition, and genetics, and to contribute to the agroecological transition of livestock systems (environmental respect, animal welfare, and product quality). The GENUTS team (20 collaborators) works at the crossroads of nutrition and genetics to improve poultry production systems.

Your work will be part of the European PEPR PREZODE TALEDZ project (Typology of Farms in the Antilles and Early Detection of Zoonoses), coordinated by the University of the Antilles, in collaboration with INRAE, University of Burgundy Franche-Comté, and Le Havre Normandy University. The project aims to develop innovative methods for the early detection of zoonoses emergence in poultry in an Antillean context. The recruited person will be in charge of an experimentation to study the behavioral changes of animals facing thermal stress through video analyses and accelerometer sensors generating high-throughput data.

You will be specifically in charge of:

• Creating, managing the quality, and analyzing data from video recordings
• Creating, managing the quality, and analyzing data from accelerometers attached to animals
• Being in charge of the synchronization of videos and accelerometers
• Valuing the results of the impact of a heat stroke on the behavior of poultry for oral and written communications

Participation in animal experimentation.

Possibility of telework.

Required Education and Skills

Required Education:

• Master in animal sciences with a study of behavior

Required Knowledge:

• Mastery of video annotations via Boris
• Knowledge of the repertoire of broiler behaviors
• Mastery of R or Python and statistical analyses related to behavior

Desired Skills:

• Autonomy, sense of organization, rigor
• Management of experimental data from high-throughput phenotyping tools
• Good oral and written communication, in French and if possible in English
