Surgical Technologist

The Certified Surgical Technologist plays a critical role in the operating room by serving as the scrub person under the supervision of the surgeon and registered nurse. This role ensures a safe surgical environment, proper functioning of equipment, and adherence to surgical protocols to maximize patient safety during invasive procedures. The technologist must have expertise in surgical techniques, anatomy, and instrumentation to support the surgical team effectively. Responsibilities:

• Prepare and complete case carts according to surgeon preference cards.
• Recognize and interpret preference cards for procuring instruments and supplies.
• Communicate clearly with operating room staff and sterile processing personnel to coordinate instrumentation for scheduled and unscheduled cases.
• Review daily surgical schedules with charge nurse and sterile processing coordinator to identify potential turnover delays and scheduling issues.
• Manage core phone communications, delegate duties, and coordinate breaks and lunches within the team.
• Serve as a resource for sterile processing and surgical services departments regarding instrumentation and supply procurement.
• Coordinate with materials management concerning supply utilization and deployment.

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program or equivalent military surgical technologist training.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Strong knowledge of surgical techniques, human anatomy, and surgical instrumentation.
• Effective communication and coordination skills within the operating room team.

• Experience working in a sterile processing or surgical services environment.
• Familiarity with supply chain and materials management processes in a surgical setting.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and coordinate team activities efficiently.

• Must maintain strict adherence to operating room safety and sterile technique protocols.
• Work requires coordination with multiple departments and handling unscheduled surgical cases.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment focused on patient safety.

• Work schedule typically follows operating room hours with potential for variable shifts based on surgical case load.
• May require flexibility to cover unscheduled cases and coordinate with team breaks and lunches.
