Responsibilities

As the Assistant Shop Manager, you'll play a key role in the day-to-day operations of our store. You'll confidently lead by example on the sales floor, providing exceptional customer service while supporting and motivating the team to meet sales goals. Your responsibilities will include assisting with staff training and development, ensuring the shop is beautifully merchandised, and helping to create a welcoming atmosphere that reflects our passion for design and hospitality.

The Assistant Shop Manager works alongside the Shop Manager to support the daily management of Asher + Rye's retail operations. This is a hands-on leadership role with responsibility for ensuring that the following areas are consistently managed:

Daily Shop Operations: Oversee the execution of opening and closing procedures, sales floor readiness, daily task assignments, operational checklists, and shop standards.

Sales + Customer Experience: Help drive shop sales, support team performance against established goals, develop customer relationships, and ensure consistently attentive service.

Team Leadership + Training: Direct the retail team during assigned shifts, coordinate floor coverage and breaks, support onboarding and ongoing training, and communicate coaching or performance needs to the Shop Manager.

Inventory + Fulfillment: Oversee the completion of assigned receiving, replenishment, stockroom organization, inventory checks, and merchandise pulls in coordination with the inventory and fulfillment teams.

Visual Merchandising + Presentation: Maintain shop presentation standards and support the execution of seasonal displays, product launches, promotions, and merchandising updates.

Shop + Café Coordination: Help manage shared guest experience needs, coordinate retail support during Café service periods, and ensure the garden, outdoor seating, and other shared customer areas are maintained.

Operational Communication + Follow-Through: Ensure daily priorities, outstanding tasks, customer concerns, inventory discrepancies, and maintenance needs are communicated, documented, and addressed or escalated appropriately.

In the Shop Manager's absence, the Assistant Shop Manager serves as the primary point of contact for routine retail operations, directing the team and making day-to-day decisions within established company policies and approved authority.

Qualifications

We're seeking a candidate with:

• At least 2 years of retail experience, including 1 year in a leadership or supervisory role.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with confidence on the sales floor.
• A genuine interest in design, home furnishings, and hospitality.
• A collaborative mindset and the ability to motivate and develop team members.
