Mechanical Analyst Engineer

Overview Thanks for your interest in Oklo! We are seeking a passionate, highly analytical, and detail-oriented Mechanical Analyst Engineer to join our engineering team. Mechanical Analyst Engineers at Oklo analyze mechanical components as part of the power plant design. This role suits a mechanical engineer who solves complex problems using first-principles thinking, rapid hand calculations, and finite element analysis (FEA) when needed. You will contribute to progression and optimization of mechanical designs, collaborating with design, manufacturing, testing teams and coordinating with external vendors for additional analysis support. Responsibilities Perform rigorous mechanical analyses across all levels of fidelity, from hand calculations and textbook formulas to detailed FEA Evaluate structural performance for stress, creep, fatigue, vibration, temperature limits, and other failure modes Apply relevant engineering standards and codes (e.g., ASME, ASCE, AISC) to establish design limits and acceptance criteria Develop clear, concise, technically sound documentation of methodologies, analysis results, and design justifications Summarize results in written documents and slides, translating data into concise summaries and actionable design revision recommendations; present to management and stakeholders Collaborate with cross-functional teams (design, manufacturing, quality, test engineering) to drive design decisions and robust product development Support the creation and refinement of product requirements Plan and execute validation and verification activities, including designing and overseeing physical test programs Be passionate about advancing clean energy technologies and next-generation fission Apply structural mechanics, design principles, and analytical methods to both simulation and practical applications Contribute to a high-performing engineering team, open to feedback, and committed to continuous technical growth Be quick to learn and willing to question assumptions; explore unconventional approaches to complex challenges Navigate the pace, ambiguity, and evolution of a startup environment Balance creativity, rigor, and first-principles thinking in solving mechanical problems Communicate technical analyses clearly and concisely with strong writing skills Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s or higher degree in mechanical, aerospace, materials or a related engineering discipline 4+ years of industry experience performing mechanical or structural analysis in energy, aerospace, automotive, defense, industrial machinery, or advanced manufacturing Proven experience with FEA tools (e.g., Ansys, Abaqus, COMSOL) Demonstrated ability to write comprehensive technical documentation and reports Excellent communication and collaboration skills in a multidisciplinary engineering environment Bonus Qualifications Master's or PhD in engineering Programming skills for automating analysis workflows—preferably Python, with solid software development practices Familiarity with the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section III, Division 1 or 5 Section VIII, Division 2 Nuclear-specific code cases Experience developing and managing product requirements and verification plans Familiarity with configuration management and version control systems (e.g., Git, SVN) Who you are Startup-minded: you thrive in a fast-paced environment and value efficiency over excessive process Motivated: self-driven with a passion for contributing to team goals Team player: collaborates well and supports collective success Excellent communicator: clear and upbeat in both written and verbal communication Creative: comfortable solving open-ended problems and exploring unconventional solutions Detail-oriented: strong focus on quality, grammar, and accuracy Salary may fall outside the stated range and will depend on experience.
