We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support core accounting activities and financial reporting for an organization in the Pinellas area. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate records, preparing reconciliations and journal entries, and contributing to month-end close activities with a strong focus on accuracy and timeliness. The ideal candidate brings solid general ledger knowledge, sound judgment, and a collaborative approach to serving internal stakeholders while helping improve accounting processes.

Responsibilities:

• Reconcile bank activity on a daily and monthly basis, investigate discrepancies, and resolve outstanding items to keep ledger balances accurate and current.

• Prepare journal entries and support monthly close activities, including assigned account reconciliations and analysis of balance sheet and income statement fluctuations.

• Track prepaid expenses, accruals, and related subsidiary records to ensure transactions are recorded in the proper periods.

• Manage payroll-related accounting by balancing entries, reviewing compensation-related reconciliations, and maintaining supporting documentation.

• Perform variance research and assemble recurring review files for management, including analysis of zero-balance general ledger accounts.

• Maintain organized records for audits and examinations, including supporting schedules for escrow accounts, investments, and other assigned accounting areas.

• Coordinate periodic reporting and administrative accounting tasks such as annual filings, invoice preparation, referral reporting, and month-end charge-off balancing.

• Support treasury and cash management activities by assisting with wire processing, overnight funds reporting, and departmental deposit balancing.

• Partner with colleagues across accounting and other departments to deliver responsive service, contribute to cross-training efforts, and recommend process improvements.

• Complete special projects and provide additional support as business needs require, including occasional travel and flexible scheduling when necessary.

• Experience in staff accounting or a similar accounting role with hands-on responsibility for reconciliations, journal entries, and general ledger support.
• Working knowledge of corporate tax, sales tax, and related annual or periodic filing requirements.
• Ability to prepare, review, and post journal entries accurately while maintaining strong supporting documentation.
• Proficiency in general ledger accounting, account analysis, and month-end close procedures.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to research variances, identify discrepancies, and follow issues through resolution.
• High attention to detail, sound organizational skills, and the ability to manage recurring deadlines effectively.
• Strong communication skills and a service-oriented approach when working with internal and external stakeholders.
• Flexibility to assist with special projects and adapt to changing priorities, including occasional evening, weekend, holiday, or travel requirements.
