Deaf Education Interpreter Coordinator (BEI or RID certified) 2026-2027 School Year

Qualifications Bachelor’s degree required (related to interpreting or the field of deafness preferred) Valid certification in interpreting issued either by the Board of Evaluation of Interpreters or the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf; Advanced BEI certification preferred Knowledge of the educational interpreter role and RID Code of Professional Conduct Ability to write routine reports and correspondence in a professional manner Ability to read and interpret educational documents Ability to develop and provide quality staff development opportunities for interpreters and non‑certified staff and conduct interpreter evaluations Knowledge of various communication modalities used by the deaf and hard of hearing Knowledge of Special Education laws and regulations Previous experience supervising or mentoring interpreters preferred Experience coordinating services across multiple campuses preferred 3–5 years of experience of educational interpreting Terms Of Employment Annual Contract: 197 days Salary

Salary Range (based on experience) as set by the Board of Trustees for the school year Level I, CI/CT, SC, IC/TC, NIC: $7,375 Level II, CI/CT, SC, IC/TC, NIC: $8,375 Level III or Advanced (BEI or NIC): $9,375 Essential Functions Develop and provide staff development courses to promote professional growth and training in the interpreting or transliterating process and the role of an educational interpreter Prepare and submit Continued Education Units applications for credit as required by the certification governing body (The Office of Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services – DHHS) Evaluate, observe, and provide prompt oral and written feedback for interpreters and support staff (non‑certified staff) to improve upon skills Verify and complete first approval of extra duty interpreter time sheets Establish a strong network with local universities and community colleges, interpreter ties to the Deaf community, and interpreter agencies for recruiting purposes Participate and provide input in the local Interpreter Training Program Advisory Committee Develop and provide presentations on the role of the educational interpreter to district and non‑district personnel as needed Work directly with non‑certified staff to prepare for their Basic BEI test through mentoring, modeling, and assisting with development of their skills on a monthly basis Schedule/coordinate interpreters for extracurricular activities and any other interpreting needs as necessary Attend and interpret Admission, Review and Dismissal (ARD)/Individualized Education Plan (IEP) committee meetings and Full and Individual Evaluations for the RDSPD as needed Be informed, monitor and report to the Coordinator of the NWHCC any information pertinent to the interpreter needs of students in the cooperative program Maintain current and accurate files on each interpreter and support staff in the NWHCC Provide feedback to campus DHH Specialist on interpreter placement Demonstrate professionalism, including confidentiality, in all interactions with administrators, teachers, staff, students, visitors, and/or individuals unfamiliar with the educational setting Be available for consultation and interpreting needs should a crisis arise on a campus involving a student who is deaf or hard of hearing Assist and provide feedback in interviewing and assessing interpreter and support staff applicants Demonstrate understanding of assignment qualification Perform all other duties as assigned by the principal or Coordinator of Deaf Education or as determined by specific area of assignment Working Conditions Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals Posture: Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting Motion: Repetitive hand motions, frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds) Environment: Frequent districtwide travel Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress Deadline To Apply Until filled #J-18808-Ljbffr Cypress-Fairbanks ISD
