Remote CalTPA Education Specialist Assessor – Visual Impairments (Part-Time)

About the Role

Pearson is seeking experienced California Education Specialists with expertise in Visual Impairments (VI) to serve as remote assessors for the California Teacher Performance Assessment (CalTPA). Assessors evaluate candidate submissions using established scoring rubrics, participate in training and calibration activities, and help maintain the validity, reliability, and integrity of the assessment process.

This is a remote, part-time opportunity ideal for current or recently retired education professionals with strong special education expertise, assessment skills, and attention to detail.

Key Responsibilities

• Evaluate educator candidate submissions using established scoring rubrics and assessment criteria.
• Apply scoring standards consistently and accurately across all assigned assessments.
• Complete required assessor training
• Analyze written, instructional, and evidence-based artifacts submitted by candidates.
• Maintain strict confidentiality of assessment materials and candidate information.
• Adhere to all assessment security, compliance, and conflict-of-interest requirements.

Required Qualifications

Professional Experience

Current educator or retired within the last three (3) years in one or more of the following capacities:

• University or teacher preparation program faculty member
• Field Supervisor
• Cooperating Teacher or Mentor Teacher
• PK-22 Special Education Teacher
• Special Education Administrator
• Instructional Coach
• Teacher in Special Assignment (TOSA)
• Experience must be within Visual Impairments (VI)

Credential Requirements

• Valid California Clear Education Specialist Credential (VI, DHH, MMSN, or ESN), OR
• Valid California ECSE Credential, or Education Specialist Credential with ECSE authorization.

Additional Expertise

Candidates must possess expertise in at least one of the following areas:

• Structured Literacy instruction and professional learning
• Literacy coursework instruction at the university level
• Literacy degree or graduate certificate
• Literacy research experience
• National Board Certification in Literacy
• Mathematics instruction or leadership experience
• Mathematics or Special Education advanced degree, concentration, or authorization
• Mathematics or Special Education research experience

• Rubric-based scoring and evaluation

Technical Requirements

Assessors must provide and maintain their own secure remote work environment and equipment, including:

• Reliable high-speed internet connection
• Computer meeting minimum hardware specifications
• External monitor(s) as required for scoring activities
• Secure and private workspace
• Ability to access web-based scoring systems
• Compliance with all Pearson security requirements

For security purposes, assessors may not use shared institutional computers or public computer labs.

Compliance Requirements

• Reside in California.
• Bachelor's degree or higher.
• U.S. citizenship, resident alien status, or authorization to work in the United States.
• All scoring activities must be performed within the United States.
• Maintain strict confidentiality of assessment materials and candidate information.
• Must not engage in paid consulting, tutoring, or support services related to California-approved performance assessments that create a conflict of interest.
• Scoring Rate: $19.00/hour
• Training Rate: $19.00/hour
• Milestone Increase: $0.40/hour for every 400 paid hours
