Advocate Counselor works closely with the various schools on the Stevenson Campus to recruit and prepare students for both the NYC Mentoring Program and Good Shepherds’ Mentoring Community Initiatives. They will work collaboratively with corporate partner agencies and DOE to pair students with mentors and work to support them both individually and as pairs to ensure success of program while meeting the mission and vision of GSS.

Reports To: Program Director, Mentoring Initiatives

Location: 1980 Lafayette Avenue, Bronx, New York 10453

Hours: 35 Hours/Week; Exempt

Salary: $44,000 - $50,000

Major Duties:

• Reach out to students to recruit them for the program
• Assist in the development and execution of innovative activities and event concepts to elevate the mentoring relationships
• Assist in training students, mentors, and parents to ensure that expectations of program are understood.
• Prepare and maintain accurate and timely documentation in required formats to ensure GSS& DOE records are complete and reflect services provided to participants.
• Provide family outreach and involvement as appropriate.
• Develop and implement workshops responsive to student needs.
• Assist with bi-weekly mentee group meetings to monitor mentor relationships.
• Help generate creative ideas for recruitment materials, bulletin boards, program swag, etc.
• Able to work collaboratively with DOE and GSS team members
• May need to travel to off-site locations (as needed) for recruitment, events, and transfer of goods to participants

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills required.
• Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
• Experience in school setting preferred
