Estates Paralegal Hansen & Rosasco, LLP – Hauppauge, NY Full-Time | On-Site Hansen & Rosasco, LLP, a law firm specializing in claims related to the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund (VCF), is seeking an experienced Senior Estates Paralegal to join our team in Hauppauge. This is a specialized position for an experienced paralegal who is comfortable independently managing estate-related matters, working with families, attorneys and outside estate counsel, and navigating Surrogate’s Court procedures. The ideal candidate is organized, compassionate, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple matters at different stages. Key Responsibilities Manage estate-related matters involving deceased VCF claimants and award distributions. Prepare and coordinate Surrogate’s Court petitions, filings and supporting documentation. Assist with complex estate matters, including deceased distributees, guardianships and other issues affecting distribution. Coordinate with New York and out-of-state estate attorneys when outside estate proceedings are necessary. Communicate directly with clients and families regarding estate requirements, outstanding documentation and case status. Review estate documents, court orders, Letters Testamentary/Administration and related materials. Track deadlines, outstanding documents and next steps for all assigned matters. Work closely with the firm’s attorneys and VCF team to ensure estate issues do not unnecessarily delay claims or distributions. Maintain detailed and accurate case notes and documentation in the firm’s case management system. Serve as a resource to other staff regarding estate procedures and documentation. Identify complicated or unusual estate issues and **escalate** them to the appropriate attorney. Assist with maintaining consistent procedures and quality standards within the department. Qualifications Prior paralegal experience involving estates, probate, Surrogate’s Court or trusts and estates strongly preferred. Experience independently managing a caseload and communicating directly with clients. Strong knowledge of legal documents, court filings and estate administration procedures. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities. Comfortable working with families regarding sensitive matters involving deceased loved ones. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and legal case-management/CRM systems.
