Commissioning Engineer - Water/Wastewater

Position Overview
We are seeking a Commissioning Engineer to lead and execute commissioning activities for water and wastewater treatment projects. The role ensures mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and control systems are tested, validated and delivered to operate safely and efficiently according to design intent, contract requirements and regulatory standards. The Commissioning Engineer will coordinate with project teams, contractors and operators to complete Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), performance testing, handover documentation and operator training.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement commissioning plans, procedures and schedules for water/wastewater treatment systems and associated mechanical equipment.
• Prepare and review test procedures, checklists, and acceptance criteria for FAT, SAT and performance testing.
• Conduct on-site testing, functional checks, loop checks, and system integration tests for mechanical, electrical and control systems (including PLC/SCADA).
• Troubleshoot and resolve commissioning issues, liaising with design engineers, vendors and contractors to achieve successful outcomes.
• Coordinate and supervise commissioning teams, subcontractors and vendor technicians to ensure safe, timely and compliant execution of activities.
• Verify equipment installation against P&IDs, mechanical drawings and manufacturer specifications.
• Ensure compliance with environmental, health and safety regulations and project-specific quality standards during commissioning.
• Compile, review and issue commissioning reports, test records, punch lists and final handover documentation.
• Provide training and operational support to client operators and maintenance teams to ensure successful transition to operations.
• Support continuous improvement by capturing lessons learned and recommending design or process refinements to improve reliability and maintainability.

Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Engineering or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
• 3+ years of commissioning experience in water/wastewater projects or related process industries, with demonstrable experience on mechanical systems and plant start-up.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, fluid handling systems, pumps, valves and rotating equipment.
• Experience with instrumentation, control systems and PLC/SCADA commissioning and integration.
• Proven ability to read and interpret P&IDs, isometrics, schematics and technical specifications.
• Practical experience in water maintenance practices, plant operations and performance testing.
• Familiarity with relevant standards and regulations for water/wastewater treatment and environmental compliance.
• Excellent problem-solving, communication and stakeholder coordination skills.
• Willingness to travel to project sites and work in field environments; valid drivers license.
