Construction Safety Coordinator

Over the past five decades, Little Dixie Construction (LDC) has served clients and communities throughout Mid-Missouri and the Midwest. Our expertise includes general contracting services, design/build projects, construction management, facilities management, and green/LEED projects. Our work includes industrial/manufacturing, commercial, residential, municipal, land development, and healthcare projects. JOB DESCRIPTION The Safety Coordinator is the technical safety expert for all office, field staff, and subcontractors. Maintain the safety policy and keep it up-to-date with new rules and regulations, industry best practices, and internal changes; including normal OSHA MSDS sheets. Make the safety standards known to all employees and subcontractors so they are aware of the expectations. Be available during work hours to answer questions from stakeholders and guide safe decision-making. Serve as the point of contact whenever OSHA is present on a job site. Set up jobsite-specific safety plans at project onset and coordinate with PMs to implement safety measures. Coordinate with the Controller on insurance-related job site visits and be present for walkthroughs when feasible. Act as the point of contact for reporting injuries or work comp claims and coordinate with the Controller to ensure injured employees receive appropriate care. Monitor the use of company vehicles and equipment to ensure fleet safety, driver safety, and compliance with training requirements (e.g., OSHA forklift and related equipment). Ensure toolbox talks are completed weekly and collaborate with job site superintendents to deliver safety-related talks. Oversee compliance tracking software and safety training documentation, including OSHA 300 Logs. Conduct job site safety walks and random equipment checks, documenting findings for project staff and Owners. Maintain stock of common safety equipment and ensure employees have what they need to complete tasks safely and in policy compliance. May be asked to complete CPR instructor training to coordinate company AED/CPR training for compliance. May be asked to obtain additional certifications (e.g., EPA, OSHA) to improve compliance and safety. QUALITY CONTROL (QC) DUTIES This role may also perform some quality control procedures on job sites to increase efficiency and provide feedback to ownership/management/other stakeholders. The coordinator should learn expectations by conducting job site visits with PMs/Owners to understand LDC quality expectations. During project safety walks, complete QC walks and reports with photos and descriptions of issues; maintain and share these reports with relevant project staff and Owners and file with project information. Participate in pre-punch/punch list walkthroughs with the Project Manager and Superintendent to minimize punch list length and scope, aiding a smoother project handoff and reducing costs to LDC. GENERAL WORK EXPECTATIONS The role is a traditional 40-hour, salaried position with hours varying by project needs. Typically in the office or on site from 7:00–7:30 a.m. to 4:00–4:30 p.m., with occasional flexibility. All LDC employees are required to attend a weekly office staff meeting on Tuesdays at 7:00 a.m. QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Construction Management, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience in construction safety management; preference for CSP or OSHA certifications. Candidates with safety experience from other industries are welcome, but familiarity with construction safety regulations, hazard identification, and safety training methodologies is required. Strong communication, leadership, problem-solving, and analytical skills. Self-directed and autonomous work style; driven self-starter preferred.
