Occupational Therapist

Qualifications: A current and valid license as an Occupational Therapist issued by the Illinois Department of Registration and Education.

Direct Supervisor: The direct supervisor is the Sector Supervisor or Program Principal. The technical advisor is the OT/PT Coordinator.

Overview: Occupational therapy services provided in an educational setting will:

• Evaluate the individual needs of each student
• Address the student's needs throughout any environment in which the student spends any part of their day
• Assist in RTI and pre-referral process

Performance Responsibilities:

I. Assessment

• Screenings
• The OT will consult/collaborate/in service district child study teams/RTI.
• The OT will consult/collaborate/in service SEDOL staff on screening methods, guidelines, and procedures.
• Evaluation
• The OT will assist with classification and placement decisions by performing functional motor abilities assessments to address concerns noted in domain sheet and expressed by team.
• The OT's evaluation of functional motor skills may include how strength, range of motion, ability to perform coordinated movements, posture, sensory system, etc., affect abilities to participate in educational setting.

II. Team process in relation to student program development

• The OT, with team, will identify long term goals and objectives.
• The OT will develop therapeutic interventions. Strategies and equipment adaptations in collaboration with the educational team to address EIP goals.
• The OT will assume responsibility for development and monitoring therapeutic interventions provided by self or other team members.
• The OT will update and assist with writing IEP goals and objectives as an educational team member.

III. Program Implementation

• OT will provide occupational therapy services as determined on the IEP. The amount of minutes provided includes direct and indirect.
• Indirect services include monitoring of students' abilities to perform necessary functional skills, classroom staff's ability to provide recommended strategies and interventions and overall education and consultation to all staff as needed, regarding the student's needs.
• Direct services include working with a student individually or as part of a group.

IV. Professional Responsibilities

• The OT will maintain current and accepted competencies of practice in skills as required by program needs by attending professional workshops, courses conferences and in-services.
• The OT will maintain ethical standards as required by the national and state professional organizations, SEDOL and the local school districts.
• The OT will project a positive professional image to the community, e.g. participate in district and SEDOL activities, serve on district and SEDOL committees.

V. Administrative Responsibilities

• The OT will supervise a COTA as requested by the OT/PT Coordinator.
• The OT will write, in conjunction with the COTA, and based upon the COTA's written observations, all 3 year re-evaluations on students on the COTA's caseload.
• The OT will discuss COTA's competencies with OT/PT Coordinator
• The OT will meet regularly, based on the COTA's competencies, to discuss Intervention Plans, possible IEP goals and strategies/interventions on the COTA's students.
• Records
• The OT will maintain an inventory of materials and equipment that she/he has checked out and return materials at designated times.
• The OT will maintain schedule and inform Sector Supervisor/Program Principal of changes.
• The OT will keep travel records.
• The OT will maintain student files of progress notes, attendance, anecdotal records, testing protocols etc.
• The OT will write assessments and programs (e.g. home, database, gross motor, etc.)
• The OT will write intervention plans on all students, placing them in designated areas determined by the OT/PT Coordinator
• The OT will initial OT/COTA monthly supervision logs.
• The OT will complete necessary Administrative paperwork (Medicaid, Administrative Outreach, conference requests) within noted timelines.
