Resident Assistant

Residential Assistant (RA)Let your people skills shine as a residential aid for a well-established nonprofit organization. You will serve as a Residential Assistant during an assigned shift. You are in charge of all incoming intakes to the Emergency Shelter and responsible for assisting consumers with any special needs that may come up. Additionally, you will be responsible for cleaning rooms when tenants move out of the YWCA; as well as monitoring other chores around the building. You may also provide security coverage at the reception desk, screening all visitors. Responsibilities include assisting with health and safety emergencies, as well as conflict resolution and crisis intervention.Responsibilities:Complete intakes of people entering the YWCA Emergency ShelterSupport residential staff and residential consumers to uphold housing policies, curfews and respond to health/safety issues such as fire alarms, elevator malfunctions or medical emergencies.Communicate with agencies in the community regarding YWCA Residential ServicesMaintain appropriate boundaries with clients at all timesClean apartments when tenants move outResponsible for self-directed cleaning tasks throughout the buildingWill be required to work some third shift positions and holidays (rotating basis)Other tasks assigned at the discretion of the Residential Services DirectorRequirements:Minimum high school diploma or GED equivalent, preferred 2-year degree in Human ServicesExperience working with women with mental health issues, alcohol/drug dependency and/or victims of domestic violence; with the capacity to handle sensitive issues tactfullyThe Residential Assistant should be a courteous individual, with a presentable and professional appearanceMust be able to pick up at least 50 pounds and have the ability to move up and down stairs quicklyThe ability to multi-task as well as prioritize tasks at hand are also important qualitiesExperience with Microsoft Office SuiteAbility to work independently when needed and as well as with a teamHave good attendanceBe organized and detail orientedBe able to maintain confidentiality & have appropriate boundariesAbility to maintain a neat workspaceProvide a supportive environment which respects and affirms all consumers' racial, cultural and religious identity and lifestyleBe open to the possibility of expanded duties as knowledge increases and interests become focusedJob Type: Full-time positions available.Pay: Starting at $16.00 per hourExpected hours: 8 – 40 per weekFull-Time Employee Benefits:401(k)Dental insuranceEmployee assistance programFlexible scheduleHealth insurance (Full-time)Life insurance (Full-time)Paid time off (Full-time)Referral programSchedule:8 hour shiftDay shiftEvening shiftEvery weekendMonday to FridayNight shiftOvernight shiftEducation:High school or equivalent (Required)Experience:Residential setting: 1 year (Preferred)Work Location: In person YWCA of Binghamton
