You will serve as a Transportation Assistant and be responsible for providing technical assistance in the review and analysis of transportation requirements associated with the movement of freight, passengers, or personal property, and other related assignments ..

Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include:

• Conducts group or individual orientation and counseling sessions on traffic management matters.
• Advise personnel of all new benefits, privileges, or responsibilities affecting the shipment needs and services.
• Provides technical advice on packing, crating, loading and marking of shipments to ensure that dimensional clearance and weight limitation of specific shipments conform to carrier or mode specifications.
• Carries out needs of the outbound/inbound/non-temporary storage (NTS) household goods unit.
• Reviews computerized NTS monthly and quarterly billings to ensure that all transactions during the period are reflected and accurately entered.
• Produces a variety of documents using word processing software, working from handwritten drafts, edited copies, or electronic files.

Qualifications

To qualify at the GS-07 grade level, your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience include performing the following types of tasks on a regular basis.

• Using word processing software and moving text within and between electronic word processing files.
• Providing orientation and counseling to personnel on traffic management matters and transportation entitlements.
• Managing the shipment and non-temporary storage (NTS) of household goods and reconciling billing discrepancies.
• Analyzing transportation requirements associated with the movement of personal property, producing documents using automated database.
